Tips for using the "New Posts" feature / "Hiding Forums" feature is back!

I just found about New Posts, a nice way to just look at, well, the new posts in these forums. My naive understanding of this functionality is:
  1. You click on New Posts, it shows you all new posts since the last time you did this.
  2. It automatically marks all these new posts as "already seen", so that if you click again on New Posts it would show (almost) zero new posts.
Now, #2 is not really happening. Am I wrong in my expectations? Is this something I can choose to happen? Is there a way to manually mark new posts as "already seen"?

Thanks and best regards.

Re: New posts

To mark all posts as already seen, click the "Quick Links" at the top right, then click "Mark Forums Read" in the drop-down menu.

Also, don't forget, if there are some sections of the forum that you're not interested in, for example "International affairs" or the "Marketplace" stuff, you can go to "My Settings" and then "Edit Options", then scroll to the bottom and select forum sections that you wish to exclude from the new posts list.

Re: Tips for using the "New Posts" feature

Funny, I could have sworn I did that before creating this (now aptly named) thread, and it didn't work. But I just tried now and it did. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Re: Tips for using the "New Posts" feature

For some reason the option to exclude certain forums from the new posts list disappeared a while back.

It is there now though. Click edit options and scroll right to the bottom of the page, and there you can select forum sections to exclude.

Many thanks for returning the ability to exclude certain forums. For those of us who access the forum through the New Posts search this results in substantial decluttering.
