The "Users currently reading this thread" feature

No idea how long it's been there and maybe it's just me but I ain't too happy about the feature showing active users reading the thread.

As I don't know how long it's been there I could easily be wrong but I believe that, in some cases, PM's are fired off from thread starters to users they have see reading their thread but who have felt fit not to respond.

I get a Big Brother stroke Stalker feeling from it.

Could just be paranoia of course, I am of that certain age where it kicks in.

yes it's new and was activated by EdBob just a few days ago - valid concerns, i'll let EdBob reply with his view on whether it stays or doesn't

Cheers

Don't worry, we know who you are and where you live.

Re: This users reading the thread thingie

Although it's new, users could get similar info by looking the "Who's Online" output. It's just more convenient now.

I just have to remember not to linger in the "sex" and "funny cats" threads....

(hastily starts formulating a reply before swissbob can PM her )

Really? I quite like it myself (but then I'm a bit of a nosy nellie anyway.)

It's new since a couple days ago, although as mirfield says the same information has always been readily available: just go to "Who's Online" and sort by location.
(In fact, if anything this way is slightly less stalkerish: the "Who's Online" listing would also tell you how long ago each user started viewing it, and whether or not they're replying.)

Of course if you do start to get any nasty PMs as a result of your sneaking thread-voyeur ways just let one of the mods know and we'll have a word in the person's ear.

As Nicky says, if it bothers you then go to your options and select invisible mode.

Which is exactly what I do when I'm on any forum that allows this. I must say though I'm not sure whether this is good etiquette or not. Oh well.
