Change or update of the Forum yesterday [15/12/09]

Out of curiosity was there an update to the forum performed yesterday [15/12/09]? Reason I ask is that the rendering of the EF has gone a bit squiffy on my iPhone. The EF works fine on all my normal computer based browsers though.

Yes I know I should get a life

Re: Change or update of the Forum yesterday [15/12/09]

Yep, just did it, made no difference. The forums still usable, but now the iPhone displays the entire of the top bar with all the funny people. This causes all the content underneath to shrink - easily got round by zooming.

I was simply curious if there was a change yesterday, that's all.

Yes, there was a minor change in the header yesterday.

The EF logo is now centered instead of being left-aligned.

I'll see if I can do something to fix that iPhone squiffiness.

Re: Change or update of the Forum yesterday [15/12/09]

Same problem here. The EF banner used to run off the right of my screen (cutting the girl with the red book in half) and the body of the forum would fill the screen left and right.

Since yesterday the banner now fills the screen making the main content at about 70% in size. I can zoom in to that but it's not ideal.

Grumpy, are you also talking about on the iPhone?

It looks like just over 1% of EF visitors are iPhone users:

Sorry, yes. Should have made that clear. Display is fine on my Mac, just a problem with the iPhone

Try a proper phone, I believe the forum may work then.

Filling the screen again - Thanks

EDIT: But the logo is no longer clickable to return to the homepage, but can live with that :-)

It uses Javascript to make it clickable. I think the iPhone supports Javascript.

Maybe it is actually clickable, it's just that your cursor isn't changing on mouseover?

unrelated question slappy - is there a way to get the iphone to rapidly scroll down ? by touching the top it zooms back up which on long pages like EF make up navigation easy, but I cant find an equivalent to move quickly to the bottom of the page, any idea ?

Ah ok, I leave javascript off on my iPhone as it loads pages faster without it. I can live with that limitation.

And by the way there's no such thing as a cursor/mouse pointer in the true sense on the iPhone - it's just your finger.

I'm wondering if that's causing the problem I just noticed this morning on my Mac Book Air. When I have the browser opened to the full width of the display and load the EF homepage everything looks normal. The moment I start to scroll down the whole page hoops several millimeters to the left now as if it's realigning itself. Don't see the same on my Mac Pro. If you need to know what resolutions I'm working with I'll let you know later when I'm back home as I don't have those comps with me here at work (by the way not seeing this behaviour on my work PC).

On the iPhone the Nun on the header banner has been cut in half.

Good work, Editor Bob.

Currently this can only be achieved via a bookmarklet, e.g.: http://www.firozansari.com/2008/04/0...m-bookmarklet/
Two taps instead of one, but better than nothing.

Re: Change or update of the Forum yesterday [15/12/09]

I've just started accessing EF on my BlackBerry Storm (the touchscreen one) and have noticed that the layout is different. For a start, I couldn't find the Quick Links option in the top menu bar (and hence not my Subscribed Threads link). I get the whole page scaled down to fit on my phone screen and have to zoom in to be able to read or click anything; then, when I click to a new page, it's zoomed right back out again ... sounds like a combination of BB problems and something strange going on with EF?
