Why Moderators always edit, move, delete or censor the posts being sent by users?

Hi there!
I'm sure all of you at least once you recieved a Private Message regarding your post, thread, been edited, moved, deleted. Why this guys ( Sheriff of the EF) are not sending a warning first and if didn't see any action by VICTIM then decide to edit, delete, or move the thread or posts!!!! I'm sure they will delete this thread also, or move it to such topic like Food and drink!!!
looking forward to see Moderators are Groaning

The role of the moderators is to keep the forum clean and focussed while keeping an element of trollerific fun, which in turn encourages people to come on the forum to help others. They are unpaid "sheriffs" and while I've had a number of posts moved, some of which I've disagreed with, I've never taken issue with it. Without moderators there would be no forum.

Take it as it is. They make enough effort, without being paid for their services by people like you and I, to make sure that the posts are relevant and fit into threads and categories. They chuck away off-topic content and do not have to waste time to debate weather you agree with it or not. In some cases they might be wrong but no one is perfect. It is voluntary job, do you wanna be one of them then...

I think most of the time moderators are doing a good job.

Still, Once I had a long discussion through PM with one of the owners regarding a topic that must not to be named in EF.

To you. It's like a judge - when they rule against you you think they're a pain, when they rule for you and against someone else, then that person thinks they're a pain. You never notice when they rule "for" you - every post that you've made that stays where it is, is a moderator saying that that post is on topic/useful. Then consider what a small percentage of your posts are molested. I'm sure a very tiny one.

They have also been known to delete your message, then you ask them why, they will then say sorry when they realise they were wrong But never put your message back!!

Bring on the groans, but it's true!

Re: Why Moderators always edit, move, delete or sensor the posts being sent by users?

I think this this thread really belongs in Forum Support or some such.

For what it's worth, I've had a couple of posts deleted where other, similar posts by have been allowed to stand.

However it isn't my forum and I am sure the deletions have been done with the very best of intentions.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Why Moderators always edit, move, delete or sensor the posts being sent by users?

This is exactly what I asked myself in October 2007.

As I said in the thread EF ain't what it used to be. :

Frankly, I didn't like this forum at all when I came in 2007...
All my posted were deleted, changed or moved by the mods, or I got some weird inside jokes as reply, witch I couldn't understand anyway. So I wasn't exactly active in the beginning.
Wasn't really until springtime this year I started to use it, after I became more active on the social events, and started to know few faces behind the nicks.
Can even say that a lot less of my posts get deleted, changed or moved by the mods, or I get some weird inside jokes as reply, witch I can't understand anyway - still, my posts are just as much rubbish!

(In short: I'm fine with this forum as a social/entertaining thingy)
And I hear every newbie complain about these #$%%$& mods on EF

Re: Why Moderators always edit, move, delete or sensor the posts being sent by users?

Sometimes, the actions are in response to members who are upset by a post or feel that it is in the wrong place.

Anyone may report a post to moderators using the red triangle in the top right hand corner of each post.

As said by others, their actions are all voluntary and done with the best of intentions. They don't move posts around just for the fun of it. I am sure that they have better things to be doing with their time.

Occasionally, moderators do make mistakes and posts have been moved more than once. They are only human and EF is not an exact science. This could be due to other comments received by PM. We do not see all the discussions going on behind the scenes.

While we do the best we can, mods are not all seeing, all knowing and don't monitor every single post that comes up. Sometimes things are caught, sometimes not.

For the OP:

Our actions are intended to be for the best for the forum. A neat forum with threads in the right place, easy to find and easy to read is our goal. We don't want to see a forum littered with junk everywhere, not in the right places, spam, fights, petty nonsense and threads derailed to the point of being useless.

There have been other discussions about this, take a look and try out the search function, you might see some.

Sure. At the other hand, the work of the moderators could be reduced, if a poster, at least for half an hour, had the option to delete a post of himself,
or if an opening-poster had the option to move his thread into another "chapter", for an hour or so.
