How to edit a post? Also how to thank a post?

On most vB forums there is an edit button located next to the "quote" button, this allows you to changed the content of your post. I can not see this on EF. Is there a post threshold before I can use this feature? If so could someone tell me how many post I need before I can edit a post I make?

I also see that some people get thanked for their posts how is this done? Or again do I have to reach a post threshold before I see this feature.

thanks in advance
Mike.

You need 10 posts (for both) - and posts in off-topic areas don't count.

Re: How to edit a post? Also how to thank a post?

thanks, I figured it had to be a post threshold... though I'm not sure I understand the need to restriction editing posts, as the edit is usually for additional content, or to fix spelling or grammatical errors. 10 post is not that much though. thanks again for the clarification.

Why can’t you thank somebody in an off-topic thread ? - Is there a particular reason ?

I would have liked to thank josephinequek for recommending cable ties in different colours in the ‘How to store cables’ thread and listing shops where to find them. That advice is very useful for me.

Try looking in the "Daily Life" section. It would appear that it's become the new off topic section. At least judging from todays posts. You can thank there as well

Then use this little gem to show another member how you feel about their advice--> (located upper right of each post).

Thank you both for your tips. Unfortunatelly I wasn't able to find the post in the 'Daily Life' section. As for this 'reputation' thing I want to first familiarize myself with this point system before I use it.

In any case I feel that the orginal post is not at all off topic. But reading the whole title 'General off-topic Gossip, surveys, general interest' I feel it a bit unfortunate that the two are lumped together.

Has the option to edit posts being removed? I need to edit one of my for sale posts and can't see how to do it, and I have over 10posts?

I'm guessing you were trying to edit your sofa post made at the weekend. The edit post is limited to something like 30 minutes to give you enough time to correct typos, etc

Once you've become a long standing member with a good reputation (when you rep gets to something like 100 or 150) then you get unlimited editing opportunity (as long as you don't abuse it).

Nearly...

There are three rules, as follows:

- Newcomers can't edit any of their posts ever. The definition of a newcomer is one who joined less than 7 days ago and has made fewer than 5 posts. This is the same as the ruling about making commercial posts.

- Most members get a 3 hour time limit to edit. This allows them to fix typos and such.

- Members with over 100 reputation points (currently 68 members) have unlimited edit rights on their own posts.

Hopefully that's the fairest way to prevent abuse without penalising those who use the system sensibly.

It says I have Groaned at 1 Time in 1 Post.

What does it mean? I am not angry of anyone. Maybe I just pressed the wrong button.

Looking at your profile, you did not do the groaning. Someone groaned at you. That would be fatmanfilms, in the first post of this thread.
