Post deleted......

I have been informed by a mod that some posts made by me have been deleted, as they were catagorized as "pointless "chat" posts."

Huh....? What a joke!!

If all pointless "chat" posts should be removed, 98% of this forum is no more.

OK...start groaning, deleting, banning or whatever..........I am gone.

Kinda pointless to post this and say I'm gone... but I have the feeling that you are not.

Sometimes Mod's do that when things go too OT. Nothing personal. chillax

Honesty just relax. Mods are just humans and have bad days sometimes or all the time Anyway just HTFU and chill. Shoot few posts on my "Little kids hurt my feelings" thread I know it feels personal when they delete your posts but it's not end of the world. You do your thing and let them do their thing.

Re: Post deleted......

I realize that the automated message that you get when being notified of a deleted / moved / edited post says not to reply to that notification

BUT

Why not simply write a private message to the mod who did it and ASK what was wrong with your posts for them to count as "pointless chat" in comparison to others?

(Why do some people - and I do NOT mean the mods - make it seem like "belonging" to a forum is so hard? Good grief!)

Well, I felt it was a trivial addition to a more serious Flouncerating™, so removed it.

Just to clarify a bit - it often depends WHERE the chat post is. To post chat in a chat Thread is one thing, in a 'serious' thread with real Info it is just 'padding' which tends to obscure the sensible bits.

Also - one 'funny comment' can be classed as funny, a reply to that may be considered Ok, but a third post in the same vein, however clever, often takes the Thread way off-topic. Sometimes to stop the rot, it's a case of 'one out, all out'.

Sorry guys, you can't win them all.

Ahh, the perversity of it all. If there was 98% less irrelevent chat, there'd be 98% less work for the Mods.

Re: Post deleted......

This is the first foruum I have ever "belonged" to, and I no longer wish to see myself as belonging. I still come here to pass the time, but as the author of the opening thread says, there are more than a couple double standards here. Sometimes posts even get deleted without myself being informed. I made a joke on athread recently, and then when somoen else posted back in appalment at what I had written I created a subsequent post to explain it was a joke. This, however, was deleted at some point or another, which was brought to my attention by a PM of another appalled member. It seems odd to me that the potentially offensive post would remain up, and the subsequent post explaining said post is removed, without reason, without notification.
And I totally aggree with the posts being deleted for not having a point. HOw many times have I read "this thread is uselss without pictures" in a thread where that makes no sence? Granted, it has it's humour, but thats where our zealous mods lack in objectivity. There are many forms of humour, and where the line should be drawn is when it offends or hurts another user. Unfortunately many mods operate on a more personal level.
Then there is the topic of publicising PM's (yes, this is what I got banned for). Apparently one can write whatever one wishes about PMs as long as it is not verbatim. This is also subject to the author of the post and his or her relationship with the mods. (ie. if the like you, you can write waht you wish, if not....well, try it)
Finally, a plea to Mods, once they have decided something, often falls on deaf ears. I have attempted getting reasoning, only to be ignored. (which is fair, I suppose, after all the message is automated and indicates that we should not attempt to reply). I have also attempted to get a post removed. A post that not only had nothing to do with the thread it was in, but clearlya post that would have made more sence (not to mention would have been more prudent) as a PM. I rekon the author had his reasons for wantingto make it public, and in hindsight, I don't mind. HOwvere at the time I did, and that my pleas were completely ignored...well....I have to say ElggDK, I understand why you would have ill feelings to the forum.
Ultimately, the way I see it, there are 45000+ members, and they can't all be the same. Think of it as living in a corupt society; there are still good people, and theres often a thread of reason to make you come back. My only advice would be: write less, observe more. You'll notice a pattern quickly, and pretty soon you'll be able to get what you want from the forum and let the rest not affect you.

ps. the blobbies and groans have no effect on your real life....so why let them get to you?

Re: Post deleted......

I don't envy the day/night shifts people here volunteer to spend monitoring, cleaning up, explaining, etc. On top of their work and normal life. Has anyone noticed how little mods actually post since they don't even have time for it?

To walk around like a hurt pouty highschooler only shows some people take this forum and their online reputation way too seriously. This is a community with some rules, if people cannot accept them and harp about preferential treatment, nobody is stopping them from investing themselves into something else.

Re. the preferential treatment, I find this place pretty fair. The little pokes here and there that get tolerated I think are pretty harmless, no? And they are usually by those members who also care a lot to contribute and otherwise help out others..

Precisely.... Why does everyone get their panties in a twist over such frivolous things ? This is a public forum... It is FREE... It is VIRTUAL... And the mods are VOLUNTEERS....

If you don`t like the way the forum is handled you have several choices.

1). Become a mod, and put in the time and effort to review the hundreds of posts to determine the best course of action. See if you can do a better job. I`m sure the Mods would be greatful.

2). Just ignore the things you don`t like, don`t post negative comments, always be positive..

3). Remove the link from your favorites...

4). Have a beer...

Geez....

The blobbies and groans have no effect on my life with my husband, this is true.

If I had started out with posts that "earned" a lot of red blobbies and groans though, I am pretty sure that the EF members I have met face-to-face would have treated me differently or I may not have ever met them at all.

Garbage in - garbage out. EF is what you make of it.

If YOU want to treat it like it is "just a forum" then that is all you will get out of it. Me, I prefer to treat it like a place to casually "get to know" some folks who I may get to know better eventually at community events.

Not only that - they seem to be consistently removing the useful, interesting, funny and relevant content from the posts of several of the most prolific posters on the forum, leaving behind nothing but meaningless dregs and babble.

HOW DO THE OVERLORDS GET AWAY WITH IT???

We demand an answer.
