Re: How do I make a post in sale/wanted section

I find the new thread constraints somewhat draconian. Forcing one to make an arbitrary contribution to forums in order to offer an item for sale is highly unlikely to result in anything more than a transient effect. There, now I've said my piece, I can be content in the knowledge that I'm one post closer to my goal of advertizing my child bed!

It's because this isn't a classified ads site. It's a forum, composed of members who communicate with each other- a community. The rules aren't there so that people will make 10 useless posts and then an eleventh for-sale post and leave: they are to insure that forum members and participants have a platform where they can sell to other members (and so the mods can do more than delete spam post after spam post). For the drive-by sellers, maybe after 10 posts they'll be hooked .

...they might have also found out that there are other parts to the forum and that posts belong in the relevant section. They might even, just by chance, have noticed that ads don't have phone numbers or email addresses in them, but that replies are by Personal Message (though it's likely that half the ads had them in originally and that the Moderators, perhaps warned by our ever vigilant members, have taken them out).

C'mon dpag, argue with us here. You'll hit your 10 posts in no time.

And then you will never leave....

Yeah, but doesn't s/he have to then wait a month or so? So what's the rush?

Draconian, hell you haven't been around much have you. Of the two other forums that I regularly use, one of them requires 3 months membership and 100 posts before you can even see the classifieds area, and the other requires a whopping 9 months and 300 posts.

The reasoning is the same as here. It's a community, not a market place. The market place is provided as a benefit for those members that contribute, and not as a dumping ground for anybody passing to sell their stuff.

I guess such a forum should be something of help to people who moved to Switzerland. Imposing such rules are not good for the forum. To encourage people to contribute, 10 genuine posts are honestly too much, especially for newcomers. The result will just be more and more junk posts.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
I love the posts on this forum and have had more laughs from what you would probably call 'junk posts' than I've had from watching many so-called comics on tv.
I would absolutely hate simply to have strings of boring adverts.
Ebay works well for selling stuff, and I do it that way rather than clogging up the forum.
Pious aren't I?

The last week has show clearly that EF is far more of a family than just an information board. Those who contribute benefit most from this. 10 posts is not an onerous requirement.

10 posts it too much for you but you want us to take time out of our lives to help you? You are joking right? Good luck selling whatever old junk you are trying to selling. But please don't hurt yourself with the effort.
