Can't post in Market place

Even tho I have 10+ posts and membership for over a month, still can't post there. What can the problem be?

Wasn't there also an automated "ten words per post" minimum requirement to make them count towards the ten posts necessary to be able to use the market place?

Re: Can't post in Market place

Official Announcement by Editor Bob

Yes, one begins to recognise 'I want to get into the Market Place so let's make ten one-line questions or comments to up my post count'.
Basically they serve a good purpose though. The poster looks around the Forum a bit and sees what other people's posts look like.
We Mods have less to correct on Market Place now that the 10/7 rule is stuck to even if the ten 'obligatory' posts and the waiting week seems a bit stupid to the poster him/herself (and other EFers ).

Re: Can't post in Market place

I want to advertise on Market place my room I found 8 months ago through this forum. Unfortunately I have not the 10 posts criteria.

Can someone grant me the right or shall I have to post 8 useless posts before I can adversise my soon to be ex-room?

Re: Can't post in Market place

You'll have to get your post count up to ten - some areas don't count, so be careful which you post in - but there is no rule which says they have to be useless posts.

As you've presumably been here for eight months, I wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to go through newish questions on here and perhaps find a link to another Thread on the Forum or look up an answer or two on Google for someone who doesn't know their way around yet. Or you could, in the right place, post a bit about your experience here, how you solved some problem you had, which might help someone else who is in a similar situation now.

Longbyt,

"useless" was probably too strong to express the fact than 10 posts posted for the sole goal of reaching a limit would not, at first thought, have the same quality as 10 genuinely helpful posts.

As I had found help before moving here through reading and PMs, I just came back to return it simply and quickly.

I will now apply your tips, thank you.

Re: Can't post in Market place

You have obviously got the message, but I'll add a bit for others who may be annoyed by the same ruling and who catch sight of this Thread.

Anyone who uses the Forum without giving anything back, is doing it at other people's expense. This sounds a bit OTT, but basically it is true.

The more people who are attracted to the Forum, the more people look at the ads. The advertisers are then interested in using the site for their ads, and they now pay for the its running.

But to attract people to the Forum there has to be information which comes up when others Google. Once folk are here, they see other things, and many of them keep coming back. But who puts the information, or the amusing posts, onto the Forum? The members. Who keeps it tidy? The Mods. So we are all 'working' to help this site stay awake and pay for itself.

Anyone who drops in, reads posts, sends a couple of PMs and goes away can only do this for free as long as the other members keep the place going. Posting ads is not a right. It's a privilege.

Longbyt takes off her Mod's hat and goes to bed!

Good Morning Longbyt.

Can you tell me if the posts I have for my profile all count for the "application" to the posting capability?

Thank you very much...

Re: Can't post in Market place

I would argue that given the current difficulty in finding an apartment that advertising an apartment to rent is a service to the community in itself.

I have advertised on behalf of my friend who does not yet have posting rights and my work has been promptly deleted by a moderator.

Now I do not blame the moderator because the rules have to be followed. But does it not make sense to relax this restriction for the Adverts for property forum.

There is always a housing shortage in the bigger cities but for the integrity of the Forum we apply these rules. We've witnessed the consequences of not applying the rules and despite individual good intentions we'd be running around until the cows come home cross referencing and trying to keep the place tangle free.

Thanks for your understanding.
