Menu bar differences:Firefox and Safari

The forum menu bar in Safari looks different from Firefox. (Same username, same time). Some extra buttons are in Safari, like "Mark Forum Read". See attached screenshots

Re: Menu bar differences:Firefox and Safari

How do I find out?

In my Control Panel/Add Remove Programs list, I have Java SE Runtime Environment 6, Update 1. Version 1.6.0.10.

Can't find any other Java versions on my computer.

Re: Menu bar differences:Firefox and Safari

Probably J2SE 1.4.2 and J2SE 5.0 (as ported by Apple, not Sun). I'm not confusing Java and JavaScript here, right?

Mmh, I don't have the extended menu bar. Neither in Safari 2.0.4 (OS X 10.4.9) nor in my outdated Mozilla browser.

Re: Menu bar differences:Firefox and Safari

I believe the menu options are JS-driven but the key factor is that the browser reveals to the server that it's second-class in nature and will not support the scripting - and thus is delivered a different page.

Firefox plugin: NoScript will let you simulate this too

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm running both Safari and Firefox on Windows.

(Everything is fine on the Mac OSX platform.)

So you think the newest browser in the world doesn't support scripting? I don't think that's right.

Hi David,

I've made that change. Not sure how it will affect things though. I never even knew those options existed!
