Mods

Some mid keeps messing with my threads by blocking them because I use txt language or adding them to other threads because they don't believe the topic deserves it's own thread.

Firstly I think txt style writing is a cultural flurishment of the English language and shouldn't be disallowed because some peolple do not understand it all. I also believe making a forum iPhone compatible invites people to write as they always do on their phones.

Secondly I believe just because 2 threads are minorly related doesn't mean they are completely the same for instancey thread talking only about a Liverpool fc fanclub I'm starting up in aarau got merged with the who's your fave football team thread and they are about too different things.

Has anyone else had such problems with mods. Please comment but I must note I will not say this mods name out of respect as they might normaly be good at thier job
And just have a difference of views to me

Re: Mods

From the quality of the english in your post I can see why you like txt speak . This has always been discouraged and rightly so. The EF is not a short message service - you can be as verbose as you like.

The forum is already iPhone compatible - check out the TapTalk app.

Re: Mods

Text messaging spelling, like ALL CAPITALS, is hard to read. That's why, quite rightly in my view, it is banned from many forums. See the first link on my signature. You can't say you haven't been warned.

I've not had such problems with the moderators, no.

But then, I also somehow manage complete and grammatically-correct sentences even on my iPhone (which, incidentally, has a spell-checker built-in).

Re: Mods

I fully support the actions of this mod. Posts are not limited to X number of characters, so there is no reason why English spelling and language needs to be bastardised for the sake of a supposed "cultural" flourishment.

Cane Toads are flourishing in Queensland,Australia, but that doesn't mean they're helping the environment.(quite the opposite in fact).

Also bear in mind, that this forum has many members to whom English is not their mother tongue...they would appreciate not being exposed to uneccessary abbreviations and shortcuts.

Txt speak has it place...and it is not here.

Re: Mods

You wont be the first or the last to have his or her posts removed for use of text speak. This forum is for English speakers not English 'mother tongue' speakers so out of courtesy for the non english mother tongue speakers please do not use text speak or your posts will continue to be moderated.

Oh and I also moderated this thread and placed it in forum support - another gripe to add to your list of mod (or mid in your case) gripes

Re: Mods

Honestly....no I haven't. Whenever I get "modded" for something I try to see past the personal judgement that made me write something in a certain forum for example, and assume that they have a good reason for doing it to keep the integrity of the system as it is today.

Sorry to disappoint, but just use their feedback and learn....coz you can't beat the system

Re: Mods

In my opinion, txt language should be kept to phones because of the typical limit on the number of characters one can type in an SMS.

But these limits do not exist on this forum and thus it is considered polite to take the time and patience to properly articulate (or try to... obviously not all of us are native English speakers) your posts for the benefit of those who read your posts.

Besides, txt language even on phones is kinda annoying. I grew out of 1337 h4x0r sp33k over ten years ago when the BBS scenes died out.

Re: Mods

Text language has never been accepted in this, or many other, forums.

Merging threads is done to avoid there being too many similar threads. This helps people when they are seaching for information. It is not an exact science. Occasionally, mods may merge threads that should really be separate ones. If you feel strongly that a thread has been incorrectly merged, let the mods know. I am sure that they will look at it again and it may be unmerged. Usually, they will prefer to leave them as one.

Despite what you may read in some threads, the mods are all reasonable people and trying to do their best. They have nothing to gain from tampering with threads and only do it for the benefit of the majority.

Not only do they have nothing to gain, but it is work that they do to improve the forum for all of us.

This morning I posted a thread, and by mistake put the tags where the Title should have been. Spotted it as soon as I had posted (too late for me to correct) so "reported" post to mods. About five minutes later one had corrected it for me.

Amazing how you've been able to overcome this when it comes to filling up my PM inbox with your constant whining about my removing one lousy TXT SPK post of yours.

Now about your second "problem". If anyone is interested, below is the link to the post that he's talking about. I merged it to that thread because the thread asks "who's your football team". The post just prior to yours says Liverpool and yours says you're thinking about starting a lfc (guessed that was TXT SPK for Liverpool Fan Club). If that isn't staying "on topic" then I don't know what is..

Whos your football team????

whining thread is now closed..
