| | Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 blocks EF
Hi,
Just upgraded my Security Suite.
I now get the following error or similiar for all EF pages.
It's easy to bypass , I added http://www.englishforum.ch/* as a wildcard exception.
Admins may want a word with Kaspersky.
Kaspersky
Internet Security 2011
ACCESS DENIED

URL: What do you eat in the Evening?
Blocked by Parental Control
Reason: Heuristic analysis (anonymous proxy servers)

Kaspersky is tops, this is a new development in 2011, 2010 was fine. The admins need to find out why EF is generating false positives in the database...
These fp's happen all the time, and EF have to approach Kaspersky and ask to be removed...

I'll have to see which version I'm running, but I've not had that problem.

I can reproduce the issue if I remove the wildcard EF entry. I have a PC literate teenage son, so I have blocked the use of Proxy Servers. I am therefore running custom settings.
The issue here is that KIS see's EF as a proxy server.

Just disable website heuristics or equivalent option, it's complete overkill when you're behind a router with hardware firewall anyway. I disable anything to do with website scanning with NOD32 simply because I know from experience that it's largely unecessary for anyone but the most neanderthal, button-mashing, clueless of users. It's more an irritant than a feature.
EDIT - I just saw that parental controls are involved, ahh. How old is your son?

I block certain sites because there are young inquisitive children/teens in the house and I honestly believe some sites should not be visited. To enforce this I ban proxy servers, as they know how to use and abuse them, and use a password control to avoid this rule being unset. I have a PC savvy son who bypassed me setting the web site adresses to 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file, and who was also able to adjust the browser settings to bypass a local proxy server I had added.
There have been a few occasions where my Web Controls in KIS have avoided a few drive by issues, so even as an accomplished user, I am glad to have web controls in place, being behind a router, behind NAT or any kind of local firewall , be it hardware or software, will not stop malicious code being accessed on web sites through port 80, which is open on any firewall/router etc.

Have you thought about giving him a restricted rights guest account on the computer? Just a thought.

Just a thought. | | | | | Yep, it's on the to do list. Just feel pretty geeky and sad about doing that. Also , secretly, I kind of admire his hacking skills. I would rather play cat and mouse with him as it keeps me on the ball :-) Most of his software and games require elevated and admin privileges to install/run etc, some software developers these days have no clue about code running in a restricted session...

There is no problem with Kaspersky Internet Security. I use it myself for a long time now. You have to check the settings of your software and adjust them accordingly |

It can be worked around by adjusting settings, but that avoids the problem, it does not fix it.

Can you not just create a single rule exception for EF though?
