| | Thanks button
I have just receive a nice reply for my question.
I looked around all the screen and I cannot find the "thanks" button.
Is there such any "thanks" button in this forum?

It will be available to you as soon as you reach 10 posts. Certain off-topic threads do not have Thanks option.
(Only a few more posts to go and then you will be able to thank me as well )

Interesting how often this question pops up. Would be a nice feature if you could "thank" starting from 5 posts, and "groan" from the default 10. But dunno if that's possible on this forum.
Reson I say is that 'thanks' are often more welcome, and most people begin to search for them after having done roughly 5 posts... and this still keeps the groans a little farther away from those who are a little too quick to jump on a forum and begin lambasting away with their opinions | This user would like to thank Shinigami for this useful post: | |

Dear Mods....what the rationale for restricting "thanks" to 10 posts?

I didn't (probably still haven't).
Why fly in the face of normal user behaviour: How do I thank? -> Where's the thanks button -> search around -> cant find -> Post asking how do I thank.
Couldn't it be done a little better by the forum software?
e.g The Thanks button always visible but greyed out (which is web speak for not available). A mouse click could simply pop up a message saying "You cannot thank because you have not yet made 10 posts in the forums" or "Posts in this area cannot be thanked"
Maybe EF can't change the forum software to do it, but in that case I think it would be worth feeding back to those who can.

It can't be just number of posts the person wanting to do the thanking has or where the thread has been posted . I have more than 10 posts so should be able to 'thank' but looking within this thread alone - there are some posts that do not have a thank button (the first 5 or 6) and some that do (the last few). Why is that? And I've seen it in many different threads.

It's the age of the posts. You can only thank recent posts (2 weeks? 4 weeks? I'm a mod, I should know this.... Two weeks, I think.)

I'm not a forum hound, but there are several that I frequent and this is the only one with thanks/groan/rep. I find myself going to thank someone and- d'oh! no button. I've been on one professional forum I read everyday for the last 11 years, just recently cracked 1000 posts there. If they had a I would have probably given 10,000.
Threads that are filled with "+1", "Yeah!", "dumb*ss" etc. posts are a drag. Long live the Thanks and Groans!

Quality should be over quantity.
