Happy Thanksgiving! How are you celebrating?

All the best to my American friends and to those who we've invited into our traditions.

This is the family holiday for me and although my family is not very big, we still make it special. Miss L-P after all these years still mixes up what dressing and gravy is, flees the cranberry sauce, but devours the turkey and mashed potatoes with gusto.

I make my grandmothers stuffing, my first boyfriends mothers gravy (I was 16 when I tasted that amazing coronary inducing sauce), the french maids mashed potatoes and my pumpkin pie. These are the basics that are always on the table with added touches that bring back memories of Seattle, Newport Beach, Paris, Colmar and now Zurich.

My heartfelt wishes go out to you all.

J.L-P

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

I've been living in Switzerland for 3 years and this is the first one I haven't been home for. But no worries -- my parents are cooking the traditional family meal for me when I'm home in 2 weeks! Juhuu!

To all the American ex-pats I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: Americans - Thanksgiving ?

I'm not American, but I lived there long enough to realize it's an awesome tradition. And I'll take any excuse to eat turkey I get. So we're having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday with my friends. The turkey's reserved and will be consumed with extreme prejudice.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful for good health and some fitness at an age when neither can be taken for granted.

Thankful to be able to enjoy the outdoors year round, mainly in New Hampshire plus a few (too few!!) weeks in Switzerland.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving!

I knew this would pop up here! I am thankful for knowing that there are a few other Americans here celebrating today. I was starting to feel all homesick. But I am very thankful for the life I have. My family, and good health. I think a lot of people take for granted their lives, and how much we have. I am thankful for all those little things I try not to forget. Happy Thanksgiving fellow Americans in Switzerland!

I heard that grynch is inviting everybody down to Geneva. He'll prepare a mean Turkey and some sweet potato pie.
Thanks a lot Grynch!

Re: Happy Thanksgiving! How are you celebrating?

Our friends will be coming over at about 2:00 PM here which should be about 20:00 your time. Hopefully I won't gain too much weight, but I think I have room for an extra slice of apple pie!

Re: Happy Thanksgiving! How are you celebrating?

I tell ya, this is depressing. I remember all the sweet Thanksgivings I've had when I was a student in the US and Canada and some random friend invited me to his/her family...and there was no akward stare in the eye "chin-chin" type of thing....it was just good ol folks eating nice food, having a good time without a care in the world.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving! How are you celebrating?

sorry mate... myself I enjoy a bit of the "chin chin"...

anyway as I said somewhere ( this post, another one ? ) I'm not sure what mrs. has on schedule for tonight... not dinner at home I know ( there has been no prep done ) and tonights weather may put a damper on the plans she does have .... we've been told to expect snow tonight.

anyway... I hope you find some where with a warm bird tonight, nice plump breast, juicey thighs and a good bit of stuffing.

That doesn't sound like the usual thanksgiving either. Too bad I don't live closer...we could have gone to one of the mexican spots for Margaritas.
