Re: Somewhere warm to go end of Jan in Europe

In December I was in Djerba, Tunisia. It was warm enough without a jacket and 50% sunny. But not swimming weather, I wouldn't go again, I would go to the Canaries next time in December

Re: Somewhere warm to go end of Jan in Europe

Just back from Xmas and New Year in Malta. Ok not the hot summer temperatures but not the freezing ones here now. It was great time.
A friend from the UK recommended this place and I have to admit my reservations were in vain.

here is one of the places where we stayed:

www.indulgencedivine.com

Let me know if you need more info or what to do in Malta. Air Malta flies daily to luqa and very competetive prices!!

Re: Somewhere warm to go end of Jan in Europe

We were in Barcelona this week and I have to say it was pleasantly warm compared to the minus 5 this morning walking home with our luggage from the train station - up to 16 degrees...

and the shopping was great! and the food soooo cheap!

I am sure you can find a nice cushy hotel down along the coast in Barceloneta with ocean views and a heated indoor pool...

And the best bit, is it's only 1.5 hour flight - on the way south they did the flight in just over 1 hour (we were running very late and they burnt a lot of extra fuel)....

And I'd make a comment about the 'hot' and very trendy young spanish taxi drivers...but my husband might not approve...

The advice would be if you want the beach, go further down the coast - 20-30 minutes. But if you don't mind being out and about in the colder weather, and want to be close to the sights and sounds of the city, then find a hotel right in the middle of town - for 60-80 Euro a night you can get a decent hotel room...

A shame so far away! If it where a 4 hour drive away and not a 8 hour drive I would LOVE to take the kids there!

Try Malta and look for somewhere in the South of Malta - much more typical of the character. Try somewhere in Valletta, Vittoriosa (aka Birgu) or somewhere slightly more central/north like Mdina. Temperature is rather mild at the moment. Visit www.maltainsideout.com to get a local's view on the islands - rather insightful articles there.
