Censorship & The Great American Novel

Being pretty much against most forms of censorship & a lover of literature I can't help but feel really sad that it is now felt nescessary to censor Huckelbery Finn: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12126700

Re: Censorship & The Great American Novel

Personally, I have no problem with it--as long as it is documented as an -edited version of the original.

There's an age of child who can benefit of the themes and lessons of the book who can't quite understand the modern social implications of using the so called "n-bomb"

Also "dozens of people have telephoned to complain and hundreds have sent e-mails" -seriously? that's like the equivalent of nobody when it comes down to a major complaint.

Might as well call it the version for teachers who don't want to do the hard work when presenting a book to a class, like explaing its social context and vocabulary. It's not the PC censorship that irks me, it's that there are enough lazy teachers for there to be a market for this.

Good editorial from the NYT:

And commentary from several authors and academics:
