| | Radio X !!!
Is anyone else here like me appalled by the language on Radio X ????
I genuinely like listening to the music but one Thursday I was greeting at 7 O'clock by the explicit show that had the not so catchy jingle of "this is the Mother*******, bad A** explicit show on Radio X which then had a full minute of obscene language ending with "if you don't like bad language, f*** off and turn to another channel" etc, etc, etc. !!!
Not as a guy I swear, especially at work but never NEVER EVER in front of children or elderly or indeed Joe or Joesephine Bloggs in the street.
I find this very very offensive and especially at 7pm at night where even in the UK the watershed is 9pm or 10 depending on the severity of the content.
I am not a prude but editing songs to exclude bad language or phrases I think is certainly warranted until at least a sensible hour.
I have even turned off the radio during the day when the 5 year old is singing away (as they do to everything parrot fashion at that age) and mainstream songs contain words that No-one would want a 5 year old repeating.
Off my soap box now, feel free to agree or disagree with this one please.

Out of intrigue what's the frequency of that station? Would like to have a listen first and then comment if I'm not in a state of shock as a result! |

I've never heard them swear like you describe though I know they try very hard to be cool & never quite get there. It really is a youth radio station & I suppose that if they weren't all voluntarily doing it without pay they would take it more seriously. I think the mixing on some of the dance shows is more offensive myself...

Most people that listen to this radio station are native german speakers. Swearing in english doesn't bother me at all, but if someone would repeat the same in german I'd be appalled.
It just doesn't sound as bad to us as it does to you. |

Hi Zymogen, maybe so but I hear a lot of kids speaking like that on a daily basis, wether they think it's cool or just normal to speak like that is still offensive. On the trams, shouting at each other across the street or in shops, etc. I don't agree with the exposure they get, imagine kids at kindergarten speaking like that because of an older sibling, they certainly don't know the difference.
My original point was the times that Radio X allows the airing of these programs, and that during the day they should be playing edited versions.
I really am not a grumpy Victor Meldrew type by the way |

It is an alternative radio station, and it generally plays music that won't be heard elsewhere. It is a community radio station, much like college radio in the US or I guess what pirate radio was in the UK, and has a limited broadcast range.
I've never been offended by what I've heard on Radio X (or on Radio LoRa in Zurich, which operates under the same principle).
I don't see any reason why things should be edited during the day or any time.
