I think it is this post from 14.01.11 I smiled because... | Quote: | | | | | ... we are adopting our foster Labrador because she ran away from her gun test after the second shot. While she has passed her guide dog test, her school cannot risk that she might run away from the sight-impaired person at the sound of firecrackers or gunshots. (One friend calls her a peacenik!)
The dog and I will enroll in a training class to become a Social Dog team to offer pet therapy to community institutions, including homes for the aged, hospitals and prisons. I have found my vocation in Switzerland at long last. | | | | | |

OH | | | | | Ah, thank you, Oldhand! Had no idea this thread was started till Mrs D told me. Yes, we are surprised and happy because, just the day before, I told my other half that I would apply to the school to be trained as part of a Social Dog team (for pet therapy) if they had a dog not suited for guiding but whose foster dogma/dogpa could not take it on.
Ecstatic but bidding good-bye to a fur-less floor. | Quote: | | | | | Oooh do tell more? | | | | | Thanks. As above and below in Mrs D's post. | Quote: | | | | | Yup, what's up ? Did Argus get her lovely lab back ? | | | | | Yep. Soon! The trainer, though disappointed, still sweetly wants to do the Graduation Parade for us (she will take Umbria in her Seeing-Eye halter around Basel while we follow and watch 20m behind them) to show what a good guide dog Umbria could've been. | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Thanks, Mrs D! | Quote: | | | | | ahhh lovely news Argus! | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Thats great news Argus | | | | | Thank you, MO! | Quote: | | | | | Congratulations!

Argus, I'm so pleased for you!
'Pets as therapy' programs are fantastic, they can make all the difference to a person's quality of life. Good for you!
Congratulation to Doglet, Dogma and Dogpa - wishing you all the very best.

Perhaps you could visit the playgroup Argus, we could show the kids how to behave around dogs. |

A good example of care in the community actually working.

@Argus - This must be the black one with snow on his nose? It must be SO hard to give them up... I am happy to hear that he is back with you.

Thanks, Fduvall. Yes! She loves the snow and hops in and out of it like a hare.
We were heartbroken every time she went back to her trainer after her breaks with us. Now glad all that is behind us.

She is gorgeous!
I am having tears!!! I am so happy for you! How big heart you have to be able to care for a dog and give it back after all the love and connection made!
I am guessing that she missed you so much that she tried to run away to go back to you!
Gosh! I am so hormonal, I am crying like a baby!
Congratulation Argus, I am very very happy!

Aw, Nil, it's all fine now. Thanks for the sentiments and support.
She doesn't miss anyone - she always lives in the present and fully appreciates whomever she is with, be they humans, cats or other dogs.
We got a lot to learn from her. She bonds very easily with people - that's partly why she'll make a good pet therapy dog.
P.S. The school's not overjoyed as we were going to foster another pup, but now that's a no-go as a potential guide pup should not be brought up with another dog in the flat.
as a little pup two winters ago, grown up (seeds on her mug from running through tall grass), snuggling with her trainer's cat
