Can't really blame him, used to live in gent for 6 month .

I must say, people there are just as weird as the Swiss...but speak better English.

Yeah you took the town there, Gent ( i hate that town), im from near the coast.

In one of his own shows, James May gave out about the Belgians ,and he said he didn't like them nor did he like the country.

Jeremy on the otherhand had loads of fun in Belgium, while traveling around in Europe.

James May is just a bit "eccentric " in his own way i guess

Re: The New 2011 Top Gear series is nearly upon us

I actually like Gent. The pubs are definitely better than in Switzerland.

On top gear: I must say that I found their Iraq trip a bit ott. I think they are running out of ideas and have the pressure to always top it a bit more. Vietnam on a scooter was cool, the altiplano trip already a bit weird and through Iraq and Souther Turkey in crap roadsters is defnitely on the stupid side. I love the show, but I must say that it stopped to be funny or surprising to continuously drive into each others cars years ago...

Maybe it is time to evolve the format a bit again. Maybe a (temporary) change in staff? A fourth person, so they could have competitions in teams of two? Don't know...

I don't want to upset you, but Clarkson made definitely more Belgium jokes in the past than May...

Vietnam on scooter is my favorite ! Lovely show.. Also the ones where they change car's into boats, or the caravantrip, makes me laugh time after time.

The Iraq one started off a bit annoying with Hamsters "fake " screaming and shouting..he could have done without it.

Other then that the show is ok, the usual funny one liners, car trouble and what not.

Lets hope that due to James being an Idiot ( who holds a rope connected to 2 cars..) got some sense knocked into him.

Other then that, bring it on looking forward to the new season !

Well... when he drove the Skoda Roomster or whatever it is called he said he didn't like his car... and compared it to Belgium. But of course: If you put it into the context that he thinks an RS4 is for cement salesmen...

Re: The New 2011 Top Gear series is nearly upon us

Sorry, but James is just an idiot - anything but "sensible". He's the most arrogant on the show with the least to show for it. At least the other two know something about cars and (a little less about) how to drive them.

Should be interesting to see "Captain Slow" (technically the fastest of them all after the Veyron episode) on the test track with an Ariel. Weeee!

But he's still a jerk.

As for Clarkson, the only country he makes fun of on every single episode is Germany - although that goes for just about every show on British TV...

Actually, I think he's very knowlegdable. There was a short-lived quiz show (maybe it's still on Dave or some such) called Petrolheads possibly? He was one of the team captains and had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things automotive.

I think you missed a few episodes.. whenever there is some serious repairs to do they all go to May, Clarkson smashes things and Hammond looks pretty, all in all they make a perfect trio! I love them

Just for he record: They are like actors playing roles. While I believe that Clarkson might actually be the same he is in the program, has May had less dull moments on TV - both in top gear as well as other programs. I typically find him best when he is not with the other two, but for example interviewing Hakkinen.

And on a related note... I really miss a driver in F1 as communicative as Hakkinen

Of course they're actors and it's all fiction, often very very predictable stuff actually, nonetheless I think May has proven to be knowleadgeable and argumentative on many other occasions.

Re: The New 2011 Top Gear series is nearly upon us

I think I really started to dislike him after I watched a few episodes of Oz and James and their boozy adventures. James just comes off as such a dickhead - almost like he was trying to play Clarkson's role, picking on poor ol' Oz at every turn.

Fine, he may know about engines, and he might have a good memory for things, but sorry, he's a jerk.

Now Hammond, otoh, is a class act. Hosting stupidity like Total Wipeout and taking time (and money, granted) to host kid's shows... you'd never catch captain complainy pants doing that - he'd rather go for a ride to the edge of outer space (yeah, I know already, who wouldn't ).

As for Clarkson being an "actor", come on, the chap can actually write, and does a decent job at it.

A friend of mine back in the UK is one of the main location cameramen on TG.
His Facebook photo albums are a great look behind the scenes.

All in all, whoever your favourite, Top Gear remains good stuff to watch on a Sunday, even if very predictable at times.

The last two Sundays I watched Zen, we all know it's fiction but I found it absurd, everyone in Rome spoke perfect English, police, ministers, passers by... last time I was there the only conversations I had were to the mirror (enjoyable ones too), I don't think BBC thought it through....

Your points are not valid as long as don't see kitty back

On topic, all 3 of them have part in the show, take one away or add one and it just would not be the same.
That and they are backed up by a team of mechanics and what not, not sure if they ever get their own hands dirty when on the road
