My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

Anyone seen this on the box?
Watched it last night - must be the funniest programme since well - the last series.
Fairy lights built into a wedding dress - sheer genius , together with mechanical butterflies flapping around .

Re: My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

Essential viewing in our house, series record set so we don't miss an episode. Absolutely fascinating viewing. Also of particular interest as the 2 two sites shown for eviction were fairly close to where I lived in the UK.

Its an insight to a usually very closed community and never fails to make my jaw drop!

Re: My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

I'm loving this show!! I really disappointed that my Wedding Dress didn't have fibre optics now!

They're an interesting bunch, I don't understand why they are so strict with sex before marriage and not allowing girls to go out with boys alone yet let toddlers dress and act like little tarts?!

This is a new series which started last week on Channel 4. Think it is a three part one this time. It is a follow on from the documentary you embedded above, which was on a couple of years ago.

Comical to watch and a great insight into a somewhat closed community. As for the little 'toddlers' dancing like 'tarts,' they are only copying how idols such as Beyonce or Shakira dance, and I am sure non-gypsy girls of the same age are dancing the exact same way.

Gypsy girls are raised with very strict family values which they respect and adhere to so they are anything but 'tarts.' Refreshing to see in an age where many of their non-gypsy counterparts spend most weekends getting out of their heads on drink and/or drugs and shagging anything that moves.

This was the exact same comment that I made to my husband!

Very very fascinating to see them trying to hold onto their culture in this modern world. i still cant get my head around the fact that they think nothing of pulling the girls out of school at 11 or 12 to help around the house, and these girls look forward to nothing in life but a big wedding, and a husband.

Re: My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

Funny how few men step forward to be filmed. There was a great comment on one of the shows: "The groom is worried showing his face on camera may adversely affect his scrap metal business."

I think tonight's show focuses on the men. Should be interesting.

Re: My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

I was always fascinated by the Roma culture. Growing up in Hungary we've seen them all over the place. There is a great book that I read , it's called Bury Me Standing, by Isabel Fonseca. I did laugh my butt off at those wedding cakes and dresses!!
