..and cheep labour!
Right now one kid is washing the windows, one is washing the stairs, and one is "helping" me wash the floor (even though she has a fever of 40.. )
God you do believe in slave labour don't you! At least I give mine a sick day when they have a temp above 39

yeah, well.. she's a girl - she has to get used to it. If she were a boy, it would of course be impossible.. especially with all this Man Flu going around..

Re: Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

Having 2 older brothers 2 older sisters, 2 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters always made me want to escape to the peace and quiet house of my friend who didn't have any siblings. The problem was that he was so bored that he always wanted to come to my busy house...

Now that all the kids are older my parents are getting all the return they put into us...

LIFES ALL GOOD

If you are Mr. Williams (father of the tennis-playing Williams systers) i bet he's glad he carried on (the famous ones are #'s 4 and 5). That one hell of a payback!

the "change in lifestyle" from 1 to 2 is quite large - in the beginning both parents have both hands full, which you are not used to in the "tag team" you play when you only have 1 kid, but the kid number 2 itself is easier to handle, as you have "seen it all before"..
and the "change in lifestyle" isnt as great as it is between 0 and 1 kid..

You'll be fine

I quite agree. And, conversely, (at the risk of being contentious), I have met one or two only children (adults) who have had a tendency to be a bit selfish and not too hot on the sharing front.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet... But I think the best part of multiple siblings is they naturally learn to share with each other. And then they (eventually) sort out a way amongst themselves for everything--standard survival. Thus, almost subconsciously, they teach each other respect. Rarely a selfish brat with two or more children.

Conversely, some of our best friends are a couple who are both single children. You couldn't meet a nicer or more generous pair.

Indeed. I guess I did make a bit of a rash generalisation ... but also speaking from personal experience.

An awesome advantage of having more than 4 siblings:

- No one can bully you at school or wherever you go otherwise just call the gang and teach the little bugger bothering you a listen

I can see the point of having 2 and even 3.

But you go over 3, and you are immediately tipped over into the "minivan" territory, and that's a no-no for me. If they made standard sedans or estates that took 4 in the back, I might have thought about it

That is scary!
But remember the days where you didnt even have seatbelts in the back of the car?
I remember well, riding in the back of the neighbours station wagon, where there were about 6 kids in the car..

well, off to whip them all soundly, and put them to bed..

ok, If you were heading towards 3 children, just consider,,,

I have,
1 wife,
2 daughters already,

what are the chances of having yet another, XX, to make it 4 vs 1!

Is the risk too great?!?!?
I think so.
There are only so many bathrooms in CH.

As a followup to a thread that stirred up a small hornets nest a few months ago,Having-more-than-1-kid-really-bad-idea-because..., here is a list of advantages of having more kids than you can safely juggle...

- the big kids help the little kids, therefore learn to lead not just follow (the parents)
- the kids learn to sort out differences of opinion in a "safe" environment before dealing with kids in the outside world
- parents dont have to play with the kids all the time - they can play with each other
- the swiss school system is structured in such a way that you have something to do every minute of every day (!)
- if you have enough kids, you can have your own spielgruppe without leaving the house..
- never a dull moment

ok, your turn..
with 4 you can have your own string quartet. with 11 your own football team.

Re: Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

A part of me would love to have 10 kids. I love the idea of a big family, a home base with land, living out in the country and then in years to come, be a happy old grandma with so many people around.

However the more down to earth me realises that I couldn't give the time to so many kids and live my own dreams. But I so respect the women (and men) that do.

Re: Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

When I read this I thought it was hilarious.

"Things I learned from my children:

1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4
inches deep.

2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller
blades, they can ignite.

3. A 3-year old's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong
enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman
cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint
on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.

5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using
a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you
get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6. The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a
ceiling fan.

7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh," it's already too
late.

8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9. A six-year old can start a fire with a flint rock even though 36-year old
man says they can only do it in the movies.

10. Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old.

11. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

12. Super glue is forever.

13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't
walk on water.

14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15. VCR's do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though TV commercials show they
do.

16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18. You probably do not want to know what that odor is.

19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on. Plastic toys do not like
ovens.

20. The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time.

21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22. It will, however, make cats dizzy.

23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

24. If you wake up and find a suddenly green fish tank with all your fish
floating upside down, you will soon realize that your 3 year old has gotten
up in the middle of the night and emptied all the fish food and chemicals
into the tank. His way of saying you shouldn't have turned off the TV.

25. The mind of a 6-year old is wonderful. First grade...true story: One day
the first grade teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to
her class. She came to the part of the story where the first pig was trying
to accumulate the building materials for his home. She read, "...And so the
pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said, 'Pardon
me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?'" The teacher
paused then asked the class, "And what do you think that man said?" One
little boy raised his hand and said, "I think he said...'Holy shit! A
talking pig!'"

The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.

26. 60% of men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid."
