Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

As a followup to a thread that stirred up a small hornets nest a few months ago,Having-more-than-1-kid-really-bad-idea-because..., here is a list of advantages of having more kids than you can safely juggle...

- the big kids help the little kids, therefore learn to lead not just follow (the parents)
- the kids learn to sort out differences of opinion in a "safe" environment before dealing with kids in the outside world
- parents dont have to play with the kids all the time - they can play with each other
- the swiss school system is structured in such a way that you have something to do every minute of every day (!)
- if you have enough kids, you can have your own spielgruppe without leaving the house..
- never a dull moment

ok, your turn..

A mother of four told me this one:

She said it was good to have a few in case one or two died in an accident or four another reason.

Actually she's a farmer and I think she was purely being pragmatic.

There is 100% chance that your family member with die at some point in their life, but that is not to be discussed at the moment(!)

Please keep this thread somewhere approaching fluffy..

Re: Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

Sorry Rangatiranui, struggling today when you have 2 out of 4 home sick and booking accommodation for family of 6 (cheaply) for summer holiday is damn near impossible!

But -

* I will get grandchildren from at least one of them (high probably at least one is going to be gay)

* It least one of them will look after me in my old age

* When you start toilet training with the youngest they already know all the ins and outs of EVERYTHING!

* You discover that the younger ones learn how to read and write earlier than the eldest just by watching - more time for Mum on EF

* Support/care for each other when put in a new situation - especially international moves

* Makes Christmas time so much fun when you're so far away from family

* They learn how to stand up for themselves when they defend their toys!

* Bedtime is just like the Waltons - Good night John Boy!

* The stares you get from people when you are all out in the supermarket - I just love staring back at them thinking "They're just jealous!"

* The left over pieces of cake/dessert/chocolate they don't like (it soon adds up)

* Hang me down clothes saves oodles. You know you get your moneys worth instead as they get worn by more than 1 child!

As much as I bang my head against the brick wall with them I would NEVER swap them for anything. They provide so much fun, laughs, love and companionship.

Nope! Not a chance in the world!

But it is nice to hear nice stuff about big family! I have a loooot of respect for the parents who go for bigger family that what we are now used to!

You have to be very strong to handle it!

Re: Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

Our 2 girls have relly benefitted from each other. They're quite close in age (only 20 months difference) so played really well together from very early on. They picked up French very quickly from creche, and it is now their preferred language when talking to each other, or arguing as it more often the case as they approach adolescence :s. It would have been nice to have a third (the girls would have loved it), but Mrs. G was already 36 when the youngest was born.

My dear Rangatiranui, it's a matter of simple mathematics!

If you have two kids they can play together or they can play separately, and that's it (unless you are prepared to invite the neighbor's horrid little brats round.) If you have three they can play in 5 different ways... 4 kids can play in 15 ways... why, by the time you get up to eight or nine they can amuse themselves for years without repeating a combination!

A lot of kids is hard on the parents but for the kids themselves it's great! My best friend in kindergarten had 7 siblings and I loved being at their place because of all the action that was going on.

Re: Having 3 or more kids is a really good idea because.....

You can explore your universe more diversely..

My brother in law, number 1 of 7, (who incidentally said he would never have kids after raising all his siblings, then had the first one in December) played an interesting game where he towed a younger sibling, who was sitting on a piece of cardboard, along the street on his bike.
He got in a bit of trouble with his mother when said sibling got a bit of road-rash when the nappy he was wearing had worn through..
Now imagine doing that with a neighbours kid? At least with your own brother it is done in the name of "playing"..

Its a little hard on the parents to give everyone the right amount of attention but all of us where always there for each other...

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet... But I think the best part of multiple siblings is they naturally learn to share with each other. And then they (eventually) sort out a way amongst themselves for everything--standard survival. Thus, almost subconsciously, they teach each other respect. Rarely a selfish brat with two or more children.

They certainly come up with more imaginative things when there are more of them. My SIL's 4 kids at 3/3/3 & 4 years came up with getting together and pushing the trampoline over to the fence so they could jump over the fence with a 10 foot drop on the other side. The grandparents where looking after them and caught them as they were testing their jumps

The cutest thing I have heard was the twin girls doing a fashion show. That involved every single item of clothing in their wardrobe being warn - with makeup getting on most of them. Mummy wasn't happy

It is my duty as a superior human to propogate my genes as much as possible.

I like what MathNut said. I've always felt the one or two kids is quite dull - when you have three, you've got the three-body problem. Inherent chaos. Far more interesting.
