You're basically like that "friend" you mentioned: 50chfs for a phone which is demonstrably worth 300chfs??? Come on!
sorry. i mistyped. i meant to say 5chfs + a beer. it's my standard opening offer on EF.

EDIT: and let's not get into an argument as to what it means to be demonstrable

And how might one recognise one of these "scumbags", especially before the deal is entered into? I'm interested in this because I'd like to learn the same lesson as you learned and I'm just sitting here hoping I'm not responding to room temperature IQ fortune cookie wisdom.
You recognize scumbags by following your instincts, your 1st impressions, your prejudice. It is actually very useful. Normally my 1st impressions about a person have proven right (exceptions apply both ways). Having said that, some people have a harder time figuring out who is decent and who is scum. Especially if the crook is of the nice-guy type (who are the most dangerous ones), the type that remembers your name, says how great is to see you again and even remembers a few of your family details, like your sons names, etc. You know what I mean.

Of course you can add to that due dilligence about the guy, something that should be mandatory if you are planning to do something significant. Be open about it, ask the involved person if he would have any problems if you ask a few questions to his previous employer, partner or customers about him. After that, you should really make the calls.

well, the guy is a friend of mine, so i mainly want to see him wearing a sandwich board on paradeplatz. and preferably have people throw tomatoes at him

the 200chf deal was not in writing, but a verbal deal should be legal. also, he claims that if his phone is not repaired, then he can't sell me 'his old phone' as he wont have his old phone any more, but rather a new one and so is claiming 'force majeure' to void the deal.
I would like to meet your enemies, they sound nicer...

To be honest Phil, some people have off-the-scale IQs and just shouldn't be dealt with as equals. Perhaps you need to come to terms with your station in life and not try and do business with those above/beyond you.
Ouch!

he's a 'mate' and he's trying to screw you over, or you think he is, doesn't sound like you're really mates to me
Indeed

LiB, I don't think he has gotten the message. He is hopelessly naive and even gets done over by his friends apparently. He needs to go buy a box of lego and sit alone and play with that. The world is obviously too much for him.
Oooooouuuuuch!

I believe it is a joke because Phil, with all due respect, I can't imagine you are that stupid! Really, not you! Not this Phil on this forum! It can't be!
