A truce with Lost Inbroad

So, after years of posting on this forum without actually meeting anyone in person, and with several altercations with a particular arch nemesis, I decided to finally show up at an EF event in Lenzberg (the Indian all you can eat).

The first forum member I met: Lost Inbroad (asked the barman to call out his moniker so I could buy him a drink).

So, I can now say, he's actually a cool dude, and I call a complete and unconditional truce. Sometimes you need to see someone face to face to understand them.

I would also like to say cheers to Dougals Breakfast and 3 comely Scottish lassies and the Jamaican cutie who showed up as well.

All the best.

Re: A truce with Lost Inbroad

So, Ishaka is the Jamaican cutie then...? Ishaka, I reckon you've pulled, better get your coat.

I feel a joke coming on...

Karl: "I pulled a girl from the West Indies last night..."
LIB: "Jamaica ??"
Karl: "I tried..."

Haha!! UTH, I nearly dropped my drink (a dark rum & cola of course) when I saw this!

Granted, Ishaka may well be ... ahem ... considered a "cutie" by some (even if Ishaka says so herself ) but was not the "Jamaican" one with LiB last night.

It was great meeting you too Karl. I was quite surprised when I got called out to the bar.

All in all, the event was very pleasant and there was some real forum royalty sitting all at one table (Mathnut, DB, Karl, PapaGoose, Simonminissale).

Ok, now that we are all making nice nice with LiB, can someone please explain the user name? Surely it should be Lost_Abroad or Lost_In_A_Broad
Or do I just not want to know?

It was a bostin night!

As always, the biggest tossers on the forum are really quite alright when you meet them in real life...

It was an honour to meet you all. When's the next one?

Was great to see some new and some familiar non-Zurich faces! Big shoutout to Glenda for the chilli garlic prawns but I suppose that belongs on the other thread, doesn't it?

I wouldn't wish to step on Mr Inbroad's toes, but I think I may be able to explain his username:

In Ancient Greek, the word for thunder is bronti (it is worth noting that the B in Ancient Greek is a plosive, unlike the fricative used in Modern Greek). Bronti is feminine, so the preposition for at or to is stin. When one combines these words with the verb to wash oneself, which is louo, one ends up with the phrase louo stin bronti, that is, to wash oneself to/at/in thunder.

This is clearly a reference to the passage in Sappho's "Cacophony" in which the Lesbian poetess writes:

To dwell amongst barbarians
To live in din and clamour
To bathe in clouds and sunlight
To wash oneself in thunder

Of course, Mr Inbroad, unlike most members of the forum, is not a pretentious git, and has chosen to disguise this phrase, learned during a long and arduous classical education, as 'Lost_Inbroad', in order that less educated souls might not feel intimidated by his brilliance and erudition.

I hope this explains his username to your satisfaction. If you have any further questions regarding the use of Ancient Greek or the poetry of Sappho, please feel free to ask Lost_Inbroad all about it.

Re: A truce with Lost Inbroad

what's happening to LiB? He used to be the rebel getting banned from EF. And now he became the nice person collecting laudatory posts from everyone. To me it's like Jack Nicholson in "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" swallowing the pills and becoming part of the system....sad

One can do much more damage when one works within the system.
