I can't imagine anyone with a decent sex life is remotely interested.

It is a shame that we didn't have a complete conversion to metric at the same time.

Re: Today is the 40th anniversary of....

[Ssshhhh ... wife's not home from work yet, so I've nothing better to do]

Pre-'71, I recall on a couple or so occasions finding an old ha'penny on the way to- or back from- school, and nipping into the newsagent (sweetie shop) and coming out with 4 black-jacks or fruit salads - a real treat for me, and not a huge financial loss for some poor unfortunate.

After decimalisation, however, not only were the new coins (half-penny or penny) smaller and harder to find (despite being easier to lose), but they returned fewer chews (2 for ha'penny), despite being worth nearly two-and-a-half times as much.

Even as a child, I think I felt that these shiny new coins were just a front to ripping everyone off. UK inflation has never looked back. Sailed away on a morning cloud.

Re: Today is the 40th anniversary of....

My Grandfather was an accountant and could add columns of £, s and d simultaneously.

Edit: just to say, I was 2 when this happened.

Edit II: Decimal day, not my grandad's adding abilities.

I'm a 16's man myself, when I'm not having sex.

Re: Today is the 40th anniversary of....

I'm a little sad about the loss of non-decimal currency ... even though it happened before I was born. All those opportunities to fleece the mathematically-challenged through changing coins for them ... lost!!
