| | Laptop boot issue
Hi All,
I have Dell XPS M1530 model laptop and when i tried to boot my system today morning, the screen is not displayed, but i feel that the system is running in the background. Any idea what could be the problem or any good dell showroom to contact in zurich. If anybody has any info, kindly pass on which would be useful to solve this laptop proble, Thanks
Regards

I think the problem is that the graphic card is not waking up and the computer had hibernated instead of shutting down properly. Is this Vista by any chance?
You can google around a bit but I have had this twice and never got it working again. Both times I had to reload windows...my boss also had the exact same thing a month or two after I had it. Our IT department couldn't find any other way...
This is why I now use a mac book !!!
I hope you have better luck than I had.

Plug in an external monitor and check if that works. You might have to press a "switch monitor" key - usually a Fn and other key combination.
Alternatively, press and hold the power key until the machine switches off. Then disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. Put it all back together and switch on. This article might be of interest.

might happen, that the screen cable is disconnected. Happened with my HP a while ago after riding a train... Our IT could not figure out, but did not wanted to spend more time with it, as it is a private laptop. after opening there was easy to fix the problem, had to reconnect one cable...
so if it is working with an external monitor, the next step is opening up the case...

navaneeth | | | | | Same with mine, hopefully some IT guru on the forum can help. Otherwise try to get the data off the hard drive before you re-install.

Navaneeth | | | | | Hi,
Unfortunately, the XPS Series is known for its issues with the graphics board. Because the thermal management isn't great, the graphics board frequently dies.
If you don't see a picture when you attach an external monitor, chances are the board is fried.
Have you talked to Dell about this?
regards,
Peter

Hi All,
thanks a lot for the feedback. nobody picks the call in customer service. i tried removing the battery and connected directly to power cable and it does not work. i believe the graphics card is dead.
