Hi,
being rather new to Switzerland and wishing to enlarge my social circle, I have finally given in to some of my friends' advice on joining 'badoo'. Within 10 min I got like 29 guys who said hello, usually with some clever line, to boot! WTF?!
Do people on there just click on anyone of the opposite sex and tick 'send message'/'show interest' or whatever? Or is it just a ploy, because I think (couldn't be a+++ to investigate) that you have to pay to look at who those people are?
I would love to meet people to mainly watch football with as none of my friends are into that, but I am really not that desperate...

Firstly, it sounds like you portayed yourself very well, so take that as a compliment.

Badoo is advertised as a dating site, so this type of reply is not surprising.

If you are just looking for general social activities and friendships, Badoo is probably not the right site for you.

Don't get me wrong, in addition to enlarging my social circle, I would love to meet a certain special someone, but as soon as I started to set up my profile (and I was nowhere near finished!!!) all those messages popped up. Reminded me strongly of vultures circling above some poor left souls...

I'm not very tech-savvy and I thought that I got the hell out of badoo when I closed the tab. Was trying to get some work done, when all the time a strange beeb sound came from my computer. Seems like there was a 'live-chat' window still open...

Keep your eyes peeled on the 'Social Events' threads on this and invite yourself along.

Usually if you just send a short PM to whoever is organising the event to get some specifics, etc. you'll be more than welcome.

There is also the 'Commercial Events' section.

Failing that, just post something you'd like to do, and someone (not creepy) will be happy to join you.

Everything I have been to associated with the EF has been great. (I'm sure there is the exception to the rule.... but not personally)

Maybe if you start off things like you did here with the title, you give the 'wrong impression'.

Looking for company to watch football isn't such a bad idea...... after all, other than when we are asleep, 'Football' (whatever code) is clearly the only time 100% of men are not interested in women and are purely game focused.

To tell you the truth I do not see what you are complaining about, sure all the "sudden" attention can be overwhelming but you got what you were looking for right? Meet new people!
If there are weirdos, like there are anywhere, just ignore them and watch out, it is not a "badoo-only" thing I tell ya

Anytime you join some kind of community that has anything to do with dating, you will get spammers. Not that I know this personally myself, but it's not like here, where things get cleaned up, spammers sent to hell, langauge monitored, etc etc. If you don't like what badoo comes with, then I would quit and would probably work on EF group in your area, this way you can organize things, have a little oversight of who is coming, know more about members. Organize an EF event, one or two, then something that regularly shows up, you will see how much your social circle enlarges and you can also meet your "special one", as this has happened before . We don't really have a strong EF group there, it would be nice if somebody started. It's always better to just leave the dating bit in the background, maybe it works out, maybe not, but you certainly meet folks and have fun in the meantime. If it is specifically dating mess, you can end up harassed by a number of horny bored crazies.

Ok, having never joined a site like that, I'm probably pretty naive, but do people mainly join badoo for casual hookups? To me it just seem weird, that all those random guys 'clicked' so quickly on my profile. Seems as if they are on the prowl...
So I guess, badoo is neither good for making friends, nor suitable for people who are looking for serious relationships, right?

I guess, I am cancelling my profile then...

Seems to be a spawnig ground for mal-ware and spy-ware, people complain that they are getting mails from people to follow a link, only the persons have no idea that they have sent mail.
Be carfull, Slammer will not be going on that site.

You could go along to one of the social nights in Lausanne but its a bit awkward on your own. I went 3 times to the Canadian bar meetings but its not easy to go up to group of people who seem quite cosy together and say "Hello im so and so from EF" I did do it once to a group by the pool table but they looked at me like I was mad!!

a) many women's profiles include just pictures. plus age and location. with no other information whatsoever.... what kind of man do you think they're looking to attract?

b) more than a few women list themselves as "taken". right... that was my reaction too. So WTF are you doing on a dating site???

It sure you will find a bit of everything on those dating sites, as it's free. Now, it's up to you to make the choice of the persons you contact or not.
