Data recovery is very expensive and time consuming. Let's eliminate the obvious.
I assume your laptop does not boot.
Remove the hard drive and try it in another laptop if possible. If not , try and get hold of a USB docking station for 2.5" SATA drives , put the drive in the dock and plug into another PC.

Can you get into laptop BIOS, does it report / see the drive.

If you can boot off a CD, is the drive in visible device manager ?

Can you see the drive using diskpart.exe ?

Re: Help: Data Recovery of Hard disk

If you really need data recovery, I recommend to contact them:

http://www.kurt.hu/

they are not swiss, but has worldwide reference, can receive the hard drive trough UPs or other delivery service and do an analysis for a reasonable price (100-200CHF) After that they will make an offer regarding what is the problem with the hard drive, wher yuo can expect prices from 1000 CHF up... still MUCH cheaper, than swiss firms...

Re: Help: Data Recovery of Hard disk

Hey thank you both for the efforts.

Although I am not a tech expert, this happened when my laptop was on 'Hybernate' mode. so my office specialist team says that its possible that hard disk may work wel although its still in hybernate mode.

I will surely try out your suggestions, hope that works for me !! (keeping my finger crossed )

Re: Help: Data Recovery of Hard disk

As suggested, I would attach it to another computer and try it. this may save you the expense of sending it away etc... If it's SATA then use a SATA dock. If you don't have access to one, might be able to help you out.

Re: Help: Data Recovery of Hard disk

Couple of quick questions:

1/ When you switch the machine on, do you hear 2 or 3 fairly loud clicks, that you didn't hear before the problems started?

2/ If yes, do you then hear a) silence or b) a sound like a tiny circular saw, approximately every two or three seconds?

Re: Help: Data Recovery of Hard disk

update :
I did put the HDD to another HP laptop and same issue

The computer screen just goes blank and shows a blinking cursor on the top-left corner of the screen

Does anyone know a reasonably priced service provider who can at least get the data recovered?

thanks again

Re: Help: Data Recovery of Hard disk

Can you answer weejeem's Q's. This will give us an idea of the issue on the drive. If you are lucky you have just lost your boot sector. Sticking the drive in another machine won't help, best to put into a dock connected to a working machine. Then you can see if the drive is working and accessable. ...........

Instead of putting your HDD in another machine as a boot drive, it is better to have it as a secondary drive, so that if it is a boot problem with your HDD, you can boot from another machine's good drive and then attach your HDD to read/copy off the files you need, as the boot sector/operating system start up files would not be needed. So one of the USB/SATA options above would be a good way to go. The drive itself may not be unreadable, just a partcicular sector/file required to boot up.
