The Simpsons,Have they lost " it " ?

Back from being a kid i loved the Simpsons, great stuff.

Now since a few years i get the feeling the creators "lost it ", the fun, the humor, the story line ..its just not there.

Am I the only one thinking this?

That or i'm just getting old..

On the other hand i still enjoy American Dad and Family Guy allot.

What do you think?

Re: The Simpsons,Have they lost " it " ?

like all long running tv shows, and the simpsons has been going since around 1987 as part of another show, they run out of ideas. To be so consistently funny for so long is pure genius, however I also do think that it is not as good as it used to be. Time to quit while it's still 'ahead'....somewhat.

Re: The Simpsons,Have they lost " it " ?

Ahoy-hoy!

I am a HUGE simpsons fan!

I think the things about it wavering, from being amazing to ehh, ...it's all about the writers. In the begining they had a handful of the same writers for almost ten years, the golden years. Then of course pay and artistic disagreements came up and they started swtiching up writers for the show all the time. Conan Obrein was a writer for a while, those were some great episodes! But, recently, I think the show just got away because they have too many young writers and yeah, they ran out of ideas for sure.

the new episodes aren't great but, I still love the simpsons. I'm trying to learn german by watching it on tv, haha.
Just get the old episodes on dvd, seasons 2-9 are the best, they don't get old

I don't know on which channel(s) you're watching them, Joey, but I'm pretty sure that the ones we watch on English/Swiss/German channels are pretty much of the recycled variety - but certainly interspersed with any newly made ones - which I wouldn't recognise as such anyway.
What does make me laugh, is the channels scheduling - only last week was one of the Halloween specials.
Oh ... and on the Swiss (DRS SF) channels they put up the red warning symbol and state it's not for under 15's (or is it 14's)? - I'll ask my 4 yr old.

Re: The Simpsons,Have they lost " it " ?

I don't think they ever had " it ". Never liked that show and couldn't see what the big deal was about even back in their supposed hey day let alone now.

Don't worry Joey82, getting older has nothing to do with it.

Bro, I guess it's because I'm just not into that style of humour (or is it humor in this case) because I'm not a fan of "American Dad" or "Family Guy" either. Doubt I've even watched up to 25 minutes of either combined.

Go on, say it. It's okay. It's good. I just don't have a sense of humour/humor. Period.

You know i'd never say something about your young age

I like cartoons, everyone needs a time during the day you can just switch off and enjoy tv..even for just one hour or so.

Re: The Simpsons,Have they lost " it " ?

A lot of the humour in The Simpsons, especially the earlier episodes, was very different to that of "American Dad" or "Family Guy". Especially where Lisa is involved many of the jokes were aimed at adults with references to classic films & literature. Personally I think the writers lost it a few years ago & I have not watched the show in a very long time.

Re: The Simpsons,Have they lost " it " ?

I would rate the Simpsons as one of the top 10 TV series of all time - and I go back a fair way with TV.

Sadly, I only got into the Simpsons about 5 years ago and watch both in English in DRS2 and UK's Channel 4, but can't tell which is new and old - I'm not watching in any particular order. How many episodes were made??

I heard an interview with one of the 'voices' and was surprised to learn that they recorded the voices some weeks before making the animations...

True. At least the wording description is spot on! So, go easy on this one please!?

Now back to watching re-runs of the "The Magic Roundabout"...

That's standard practice in animation film making. It's easier to fit the animations to the voice rather than fit the voice to the animations (and get the lip-sync right).
