Good restaurant in Venice

Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in Venice for an evening dinner and nowhere near Saint Marks Square. I know we`re tourists but I hate being reminded how naive they think we are.........

Re: Good restaurant in Venice

Ive been there a couple of times and anything a bit far from st Marks square will be better value, mind it will still be expensive. When are you going? I am going there again for Easter (surprise for hubby) so might be able to help you afterwards

Thanks Angela but I expect to be there in the next couple of weeks. Good choice for Easter . If I find somewhere I will pm you. Incidentally I found the train to be better than flight.

tbh it will be kind of hard to find a restaurant with decent food in Venice... or maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't like the food there.

Re: Good restaurant in Venice

Has anyone else noticed, that on the italian restaurant websites (venice in this case) that on the english page there is no specific menu written but on the italian page, you get a full coulour description of every dish? I will have to polish up my italian because it looks very much the brits are not welcome in the Cosa Nostra!

Re: Good restaurant in Venice

Have you had a look at tripadvisor.com? Worth it to get a list of restaurants and some indication of what they are like - though at the end of the day it is all personal taste.

Thanks, been through that but at the end of the day, I personally prefer a recomendation from such as this forum, its more likely to be from a like minded person

Re: Good restaurant in Venice

Antica Bessetta -- Calle Savio, Santa Croce 1395

Trattoria alla Madonna -- Calle della Madonna, San Polo 594

Both of these places were recommended in some tourist guide but they were both very good. The first is a small, mellow place on some back streets away from the action. Good food at a decent price. The second place was a bit closer to the crowds and was kind of busy. Great seafood.

Also, Ae Oche, is a pizza chain in Venice that is decent for a quick meal. Good place to take kids as well.

Re: Good restaurant in Venice

True - I wish I could remember the name of the place I ate at there. Can't even give directions, after a few streets away from St Marks Square, I lost my sense of direction.

Re: Good restaurant in Venice

Warning - Venice is so expensive. 2 black coffees at Café Florian = E19.

We found that all the 'normal' restaurants tourist menus were all practically the same- so very boring. Looking forward to your report back.
