To be fair, no one has shown conclusively if it's a bug or a feature (for apple). Only that there's a difference between apps run in the browser and on the home screen.

Correct, and of course they cant because the platform is closed so only Apple could conclusively explain such symptoms, and it is not in their financial interest to do so.

well, it has been the policy to prevent cross-platform development so it is in-line with this. will be interesting to see when, and how long it takes to fix this.

they might just try to delay it long enough to give a temporary advantage (c.f. delaying exposing hardware acceleration APIs needed for Flash acceleration).

I have never developed on the iPhone SDK, but I think it is safe to assume there is a library for accessing network resources, and that all 3rd party apps use the same library. Except Apple themselves, of course.

Rather than Apple debilitating some apps, what is equally likely is that some developers are coding their apps badly. But I can see why an easier out would be to blame Apple.
