| | Re: Why does everyone feel obligated to Judge everyone on EF? | Quote: | | | | | The faceless nature of Internet forums makes it easy for people to make comments that they would normally not make. | | | | | I agree with this, through and through.
But lets not pretend that judgments don't happen every single day, in real (read: non-internet) life. You are judging and being judged without even knowing it, based on a look, a sound, a comment; you may not say anything about it but it is probably written all over your face nonetheless. It is ingrained in us, based on background/cultural/etc differences and upbringings. Ever heard of Malcolm Gladwell's book Blink? It is all right there....and everywhere for that matter.

I would say that the difference is that most judgements are kept to ourselves when we actually have to face the people directly, or at least attempts are made to do so.
Another thing that you have to remember here is that there are times when people may be coming home after a few at the bar and think they are being funny (sometimes they are) when they make their comments. If you take those comments seriously, you will often be offended. Just take the information you want from the posts and ignore the rest. Sometimes hard, but what's the point in getting into a back and forth on a forum with someone you don't even know? They may even be doing it on purpose because they know they are under your skin.

In Pride and Prejudice (by Jane Austen, an acute observer of character - or perhaps characters), Lady Catherine de Bourgh, the ultimate judgmental busy body says: "I must have my say".
I guess we need to leave our mark......like dogs? Whatever....

I definitely meant a collective "lets"... And I completely agree with you. |

I don't like the sweeping statement of the OP. I do not judge everyone... only Swiss, Muslims, teacher and Americans.

| | Re: Why does everyone feel obligated to Judge everyone on EF? | Quote: | | | | | So I've been thinking about this for a long time now and not able to get my head around it. I mean why is everyone on EF just hell bent on Judging everyone either through their non-constructive & non-helpful comments or through the gracious usage of Groans?
This is a DISCUSSION FORUM. The last time I checked it meant that anyone can have their own opinion and discuss it with people in a healthy way. Either that or they could ask a question for help and some kind folks would provide them with the help that they need.
I don't see this as a place to be judged or called an A-Hole or not looking into the search option (if it's their first post) for having an opinion. If you don't have anything to say except negative uncoherent BS then stop getting into the DISCUSSION. Most people get judged enough based on their beliefs, race, color, origin, religion etc outside of the EF from time to time and the last thing they need is some TROLL telling them stupid BS.
I must admit that I've been caught into this whole judging contest since I joined EF and then realized what I'm doing to which I have altered my participations in threads but it's still a bad habit that I'm trying to kick. I try my best to be helpful and not take out my resentment on others. I think MOST OF US need to realize this.
It's easy to trash talk to someone and take your frustration out behind your name and avatar - Reality is a Bitch and you're no different than everyone else. We all live in this cynical world and we all need to try to get along. Stop wasting everyone's time. | | | | |
Hi The Real Stig,
Thank you so much for your post. I joined this forum recently and as I was browsing I noticed alot of members groaning and bitching at others (mostly newbies when not using the search option). This was not encouraging to me to post anything honestly. Anyway, I thought I should give it a shot anyway!
Thanks again!

| | Re: Why does everyone feel obligated to Judge everyone on EF? | Quote: | | | | | But replace "black" with "Swiss", and it's not that uncommon in CC. | | | | | Yeah but black people can't change the colour of their skin. Swiss people however could stop being queue jumping, rude, arrogant racists living in a backwards country which has little to offer anyone.

I used to judge, groan and generally berate idiot newbies.
Sadly, even the fun goes out of that after a while...
