I used to judge, groan and generally berate idiot newbies.

Sadly, even the fun goes out of that after a while...
Here's a new avatar for you...

No silly, you just got to learn how to read between the lines.

Mingle, drink, make friends and meet other couples

sorry Swisspaul
Honey, there is a huge difference between a swingers' party and a gang bang: The number of females involved.

(And Paul was obsessed with having only couples there...)

What was the topic again?

Yes I like a good debate.

But I am never going personal on people nor insulting their person or way of thinking.

Not something he can claim...

Hang on ... I'm meant to judge everyone? I'd better get a move on; I've only done around half the membership.

I'm not sure this is unique to EF. It's a disease of all forums.

Well Nil you and papa goose keep my count of the reds nicely up, but ever twas thus. I would have to severely reconsider my position if you EVER agreed with me; itís a good gauge on the rational.

I prefer red anyway. Plus I respect the genuine approval of the intelligent minority who give me greens rather than the mass rubber stamp of the great unwashed.

Re: Why does everyone feel obligated to Judge everyone on EF?

I'm a member a couple other forums (mostly about cooking) but by FAR this is the most interesting and entertaining of all !! I love the debates, the snidey comments, sarcastic jokes. Yes sometimes we can be a bit over the line, but hey, that happens in real life too. We apologize (or not ) and move on.... we are a community.

Yeah, it's just the nature of the internet. It's always been like this. People who grew up on BBS systems and (especially) IRC would know to expect this, and wouldn't find it remarkable at all.

I'd also say that EF is inherently non conducive to civil interaction. Most of the useful information is historical, with very little of any of the newer posts adding much to the wealth of knowledge, except of course for topical political discussions, changes to existing information about some important aspect of swiss life, and the like. Which makes it funny that so many people take crap for asking questions that have been answered already. Oh noes!

This isn't Anandtech or blizzard forums, or something, where people can discuss technology or unite in bitching (or constructively argue) about some aspect of the gaimz. It's "English Forum Switzerland, the English-language community website for Switzerland." No content mandate. So instead of talking about something in particular, they just talk.

IRC was a good example, as it's just people sitting around waiting to type stuff about other stuff other people typed.

Why does "everyone" feel obliged to judge everyone on EF?

One doesn't - one normally leaves such menial tasks to one's manservant...
