Why does everyone feel obligated to Judge everyone on EF?

So I've been thinking about this for a long time now and not able to get my head around it. I mean why is everyone on EF just hell bent on Judging everyone either through their non-constructive & non-helpful comments or through the gracious usage of Groans?

This is a DISCUSSION FORUM. The last time I checked it meant that anyone can have their own opinion and discuss it with people in a healthy way. Either that or they could ask a question for help and some kind folks would provide them with the help that they need.

I don't see this as a place to be judged or called an A-Hole or not looking into the search option (if it's their first post) for having an opinion. If you don't have anything to say except negative uncoherent BS then stop getting into the DISCUSSION. Most people get judged enough based on their beliefs, race, color, origin, religion etc outside of the EF from time to time and the last thing they need is some TROLL telling them stupid BS.

I must admit that I've been caught into this whole judging contest since I joined EF and then realized what I'm doing to which I have altered my participations in threads but it's still a bad habit that I'm trying to kick. I try my best to be helpful and not take out my resentment on others. I think MOST OF US need to realize this.

It's easy to trash talk to someone and take your frustration out behind your name and avatar - Reality is a Bitch and you're no different than everyone else. We all live in this cynical world and we all need to try to get along. Stop wasting everyone's time.

True, but it's nothing that hasn't been said a million times before in a multitude of internet forums.

People love misery, love to see other more miserable and love to feel bigger than others... It is mainly an ego thing.

I keep saying it...

Why, he is an adult male not a child. If he wants to complain on an open forum then he gets whatever in terms of response. There are several approaches to getting him out of hate-mode, you chose the "oh poor you" whereas I say "grow up, you came here by choice, you stay by choice".

You put yourself up on an open forum, don't cry when they call you up on your sillyness.

In a place full of arm chair psichologists, internet warriors, uzw what else would you expect?

Nicely said. I think it's something due to the way we are grown up.
Everything is about judgement and competition.

And it will continue until we change the foundation of the house

I think you've answered your own question.

Some people dont bother to play nicely and you just didnt like the way they've expressed their opinion - but its still an opinion nonetheless.

Re: Why does everyone feel obligated to Judge everyone on EF?

In all fairness, people who feel judged on EF and can't take it really need to get a thicker skin. I am not talking about religious/racial/sexist judgements but the normal "I know better than you" comments and the tit for tat groaning. It means nothing and the people that you know on here in real life know the actual "you" and won't change their opinions on you based on a few posts on EF. It is normal behaviour for any internet forum and not unique to the EF. Granted, there may be a fair amount of sarcasm and wit thrown in here but that's the beauty of having a forum full of us dry humoured Brits

Sometimes I think people take this place too seriously and not how it is intended which is a place for information, support and conversation. I come on here every day and always find something to interest me. This conversation has been done to death under different titles and the outcome is always the same.... if you like it here and play by the rules of the forum then stay, if the flavour doesn't suit you then find a place better suited to your taste.

I don't want to sound harsh and I do see what you're saying but I don't see anything different to how it's been for a few years now (and I think we all need to stop trying to make EF what it was in the "glory days". EF has changed somewhat and will continue to do so).

Next paragraph I elaborated more - I hope I was able to clarify what I meant.

Speaking as a new arrival and having got my a@@ kicked the first reaction can be one of surprise, but I don`t think anyone interested in joining in the Forum would be deterred for that. Its a bit of fun, and I have learned a lot since joining so I reckon Ive benefited from the whole thing. Thanks everyone.

Stiggy, believe me I read your entire post - I simply chose what you've said in my reply because you've hit the nail on the head not knowing that you did and I stand by what I've said when some people just dont play nicely. Just take everything you read on here with a pinch of salt and dont let it get to you - because it is what it is - a forum, where faceless keyboard warriors express their nice/not so nice opinions. Of course, unless it gets personal then I'll be happy to bitch slap them for you.

So you want the groan button to be removed ?

It sure would help not sparking discussions between members such as " why did you groan at me " and feel personal anger against the person..

I must say however that outside of this rant of mine - I have definitely met some great people through EF and continue to meet more of them through future events so it's not ALL Bad.

May be I am thinking too much into it

Reductio ad absurdum .. mm ok.

If you come to a place saying:
"I hate x, i hate y, i hate z"

with no logical argument what so ever or any means of discussion, then you are seriously obtuse to expect any "reasonable" reply. You put this kind of face on a forum and it will mirror back how silly/childish or whatever it is.

It is a discussion forum, but that comment is HARDLY a discussion. Also as a technology based forum you can always choose to hit the ignore too, you know?.

As Mimi said, If you get hurt because of what someone says on a forum. Then you need a harder skin.

That's a bit judgemental in itself, isn't it?

This is a discussion forum. Discussion involves opinion. Opinion involves making judgements.

I've never understood the cry of "Don't judge me, don't tell me that you think what I've done/am doing is wrong". Why? Why does my opinion make you feel unhappy? Why should you care if I think your idea is of stellar stupidity? Why is your self-esteem diminished if I don't like you?

Abusive language, name calling is an entirely different matter and should not be tolerated.
