Re: Episode from Annemasse (who is right?)

In a similar restaurant misunderstanding, I had an American colleague who while dining in Zurich, thought he was getting an American style cheesecake for dessert, and much to his surprise the waiter brought a nice plate of cheese...

I love tourists with the mindset of:

We are going to Europe! We are going to taste and experience the culture! We are going to broaden our minds! We'll take our kids with us because it will be a unique experience for them! And everyone better darn well speak English or we'll get pissed off.
... and then they end up in annemasse.

with all due disrespect to annemasse its a bit of a toilet

I certainly used to.

You are quite the exception. Take an informal poll the next
time that you are in America and see what the results are.

I think everybody in this thread is missing the point... why in the world would anybody go to a sh*t-hole town like Annemasse for dinner? Yuck!
Because they thought they were in Annecy?

That was me and my family. And, to top it off, we ordered it as an entree and they served it as an appetizer. Goddammfrench!
Am i missing something here, isn't an entree the same as apperizer?

Yes, except to Americans. For some strange reason they call a main course an entree!

Re: Episode from Annemasse (who is right?)

It is surprising that those Americans travel without a travel guide.
Most Americans I met know what steak tartare is from travel shows.

On the other hand, I had some Dr.Pepper soda in my refrigerator and my Swiss friend that came to visit was thirsty and opened a can while I was running errands. When I came back, my entire case of Dr.Pepper was gone and my friend proudly told me that he emptied that case of spoiled Coke...

Re: Episode from Annemasse (who is right?)

There are certainly Americans who have no clue what steak tartare is as this episode showed. Agree that the story is funny.

Reminds me I ordered, a cafe latte, the other day in a coffee shop here i NYC (not starbucks), the "barrista" asked me whether I wanted a coffee. I gave her a strange look, and she gave me a bit of attitude saying it is called a latte, there is no such thing as a coffee latte. I could only laugh.
