Well DB, you're essentially half Yank now, so might as well officially join the ranks.

Re: Is this bag a bit, well, you know... for a chap to carry?

I am with mabern and smacker on this. A man who can pull this off is 100x manlier than your ultimate Tarzan. Maybe coz it goes slightly against the fashion police.

It's not like it is this..is it.

It's unfortunately called purse, but what else do you use? Just a brainfarty name, that's all.

Edit - I know somebody will mention fanny pack..hahaha. But you can't really fit a book in there, unless it is a mini dictionary. Though, my brother carries his entire knife arsenal in there, some labware, flashlight, set of keys with stuffed animal on it, pepper spray, bike tools, candy....you know, the real man stuff.

Go for it DB - a real man can get away with a bag - and if it makes your life easier, rise above any comments. My man has got one made of heavy cotton canvas and leather- Troop London- and he looks quite dapper with it!

Oh god, that dude is our hero and he looks great with some...nonstandard purse! I mean satchel. I think satchel is worse than purse. But looks great, to be honest.

I think I'm going to jolly well carry it, just because.

And if the Albanian chaps in the flats opposite rip the proverbial out of me, then I'll just play the eccentric Englishman card.

One can get away with all sorts outside Zurich by playing the eccentric Englishman, you know.

Works well in Romandie, as well. I am sure your neighbor will be ok, one of the Albanians I work with pulls of his LV satchels he wears on his neck! Just big enough for cell, keys, gum, ID.

So do the pockets of my jacket, and you ain't see me running around with a man -bag

As said, some people can pull it of, some don't ( i know i can't ) but when a guy does so, he will be quicly labeled as camp.

That seems pretty conclusive.

So what am I supposed to do with all my bits and bobs now it's too hot to wear my exceedingly-well-pocketed SBB jacket?

Think messenger bag. It's really your only option. Plz don't get a back pack then wear it with a suit.....

Or one of these "safari jackets". (Search for "Safari Gilet")

Perhaps they do them with federal logos too.

If all else fails, you can't go wrong with a Freitag bag.

I'm currently having something of a disagreement with my recently civilised half-savage wife from the colonies about this bag here.

Being a modern kind of fellow, obliged to carry the necessities of life such as a multi-purpose knife, an appointments diary, a mobile phone and a book, I think it's a perfect little receptacle for all my little oddments and soddments.

My wife, on the other hand, thinks it is a 'purse', and that it makes me look a bit "metrosexual".

What do you think?
This is a PURSE!!

The messenger bag is the way to go! It look manly and stylish.

Forget the purse, leave it to wife! She'll look better with it!

I think everyone's missed the real point here. Carry less stuff. If it doesn't fit in your available pockets you don't really need it.

I mean. An appointments diary???

Re: Is this bag a bit, well, you know... for a chap to carry?

Day to day I use a bum-bag/fanny-pack (depending on acceptable terminology), as I'm likely to forget some essential when I change trousers (also keeps me "bits" a bit warmer in winter).
I also have one of the above waistcoats, which is damned useful when I don't want anything banging around my crotch - problem is, mine has so many bloody pockets, I end up looking like a guy who'd carry a Samsonite shoulder bag, by the time I've finished patting my torso and fiddling about my self, looking for something.
But I'm sure the pic. below would suit, and is bound to become the next male fashion craze:
