| | Classic Commodore 64 lives again Commodore is making a Windows PC that fits inside a boxy beige shell that looks exactly like its original C64. Commodore's updated version will run Windows 7 but also has an emulator capable of playing games written for its ancestor. Commodore has started taking orders for the C64x, priced at $595 (£364), and said the machines would ship between May and June. It is expected to appear in shops later in the year. |

Anyone know if these are going to be available in CH, or will I have to buy in the UK and take a hit on import tax..? Have done some googling but can't find any info on retailers or pre-ordering :/

"Unfortunately, despite providing more technical details regarding their 64x system, plus a redesigned, retro-looking website and more photos, Commodore USA has yet again refrained from providing any pricing and/or availability information"
viz. It doesn't exist yet.

Mine was used more for programming in Assembly and Basic, with the odd diversion into The Hobbit, Manic Miner and ZX Flight Simulator.

Besides, didn't Chelsea FC kill Commodore back in 1995 when they lost in the FA Cup Final to Man U, and Commodore had to pay a (then crippling) £500k or so sponsorship bonus which sent them belly up (?)
I miss my old 64. Not as much as I miss my Amiga 1200 that followed it, but still.

My friends even took me out and got me drunk to commiserate. Twas a sad day indeed. Actually I think it and all my games (on tape) are still in the room under the stairs at my mother's place. My family throws NOTHING away.

Every few years commodore announce some sort of come back, that so far has never happened, usually followed by some soon to be poor sod buying the company and losing all his money

I know it's just a geek toy, but as such, it's pretty amazing.
