The posted link is for the season of Medieval festivals for all of Germany.

On the last weekend in May the show comes to Weil an Rhein which is just next to Basel.

I suggest somebody organises a visit to Weil am Rhein by the EF members & family on Saturday 29 May,
entrance fee on Saturday is more expensive, so I presume there would be more happening that day.

http://www.spectaculum.de/termine/weil/

http://maps.google.ch/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

It will be situated near the Laguna swimming pool and the ice skating hall. There will be a temporary camping site for visitors nearby too.

The entrance prices for the Saturday or Sunday depend also on the age of the visitor http://www.spectaculum.de/termine/weil/preise.php

Looking at the map, you could park in Switzerland and walk across the border! Or take the bus to "Basel, Otterbach Grenze"

.

Re: Medieval fair this weekend [DE] end Apr - Oct 2011

There was something similar (probably slightly smaller scale, though) at the Natural History Museum in Bern, a couple of years back.

A jousting and falconry arena on the forecourt at the front, and medieval village erected at the rear.

I believe (recall) it was staged by a British society, and had predominantly Brits. taking part.

Most enjoyable.

Re: Medieval fair this weekend [DE] end Apr - Oct 2011

Looks like a lot of fun - we might try it on Sunday if the weather's OK.

Website says you can park in Stein and walk from there - does anyone know how far that is? It says "a short walk" but not how far - and a short walk for me is not the same for my 3 year old!

Has anyone actually been before? Obviously it's billed as a family event, but just wondering how much fun it actually is for small boys (mine are 3 and 6) They'd love the whole "knights and fighting and castles" kind of thing but sometimes big events like this can just be a pain with small kids (who don't want to walk far and always need the toilet when you are miles from one).

We'll see - weather dependent I'd say (although forecast looks promising).

Sunday 1st May festival is near Schloss Schonau, Bad Säckingen

Maybe at least a mile, take a push chair!
