However, I'll say that these queens didn't inherit the UK. They didn't bring the country with them. They were only members of the royal family, IYKWIM.

Hurts like hell to begin with. | | | | | That one went over my head too. | Quote: | | | | | No, the first German King of England was George the 1st, and the rest are his descendants.
Tom | | | | | The bloodline connection did become slightly diluted, if not tenuous, when the House of Orange succeeded the Hanovers; and again with the succession of Victoria, following them.
[Of course ..... not forgetting the Saxons - although Saxony was a kingdom in its own right, long before there was a land we now know as Germany.]

| | Re: Duke beats Prince? | Quote: | | | | | The Queen may have resurrected this titles, but these are old titles and Dukedoms from times gone by. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Well sort of. She creates them anew each time. The Dukedom of York has never been passed on and has always been recreated by the monarch. The monarch can create them, modify them or invent totally new titles and lands as they see fit. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | .... but, this (from at least Victoria - may be even before) was reserved and traditionally used for the second son of The Monarch -- but was not inherited, but bestowed, each time - usually at the time of their marriage. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Not true. Holders just happened to die or become monarch. They could have passed the title on, they just didn't. | | | | | Still no definitive correct answer.
From Wiki: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_of_York) The Duke of York is a title of nobility in the British peerage. Since the 15th century, it has, when granted, usually been given to the second son of the British monarch. Since the second creation (1474), not one of the holders of the title has ever passed it on: they either died without male heirs or became King themselves.

| | | | | Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Hanovers succeed the House of Orange after Queen Anne died?

Thanks for clearing that up. They didn't tell me it's name, when I had mine done, although I was advised to avoid any place where there may be a strong magnetic field.
[looking forward to rattling about with Princess Albertina]

I'm disappointed. As an alumnus of the University of Maryland, I never liked Duke. (Cambridge is fine, though!) :-)

As I watched the flypast, I thought that if that Lancaster had taken a little dip, Andrew would now be king.
