I'd like to reinstall my Windows 7 syestem (Engilish). Any info about where I can get it done and how much would it cost?

P.S. I live in Lucerne.

So did I and my finger was on the button to move it to Housing in General before I noticed.

Are you sure you don't want to just do it yourself? It's not difficult, and considerably cheaper. Or has your computer stopped working, or some other difficulty?

Do you have Windows 7 installation disks, or any other disks that came with the computer?

Also, what make is it (some companies put recovery software on their machines which makes it easy to return the computer to how it was when purchased).

Unless you don't own a legal copy of Windows 7 you can do it yourself.
Backup first your the datas you want to keep (documents, images ..)

So here's the thing:
When I bought my laptop, the salesperson installed Windows 7 for me, and it worked fine back in China. 3 weeks ago, I arrived in Lucerne and turn on the laptop, 10 mins later, a tiny window poped out and told me my Windows system is not a legal version (damn, bad luck for me!).
So far, I don't think I can solve the problem by myself. Because: 1st, I've never reinstall my system by myself before; 2nd, I left all the computer related stuff back at home in China.

Therefore, any more advice please?

You need to buy a copy then.

Look at the prices here to get an idea:

Then order online or go to your local shop and buy a copy.
See if you can get your data saved first before the re-install.

Installing with the DVD is very, very easy, so try it yourself.

You click on the guy's name like here shanzao and then look for the tab 'contact info' bit. It's in there. I don't like the look of his profile much though! Usually profiles like that are sure signs of spammers and it's a wonder he didn't get himself banned. Perhaps if he sees this, he'll put in something slightly more 'realistic'.

Do what we do in the west - buy a legal copy...

I'm sure she thought she had. I recall this happening to someone with an XP system. We followed a link to part of microsoft.com (having made sure it wasn't spoofed), entered credit card details, and received via email a valid key - so no need to reinstall. A few days later a nice shiny DVD arrived in the post.

Very simple and easy.

But we don't know do we? Anyone on here could be anyone. And looking at it from a Mod point of view, any profile which is full of the email address of the User instead of useful information, could very well be a spammer.

And however geniune you are, an IT expert is not necessarily the best person to help someone who doesn't have enough computer confidence to look around to find the links to use the PM function.

Any expert who, in this sort of situation, implies, to a User, that 'it is easy' probably hasn't understood how a REAL non-computer person functions.

Haha Understood... All IT experts tend to work with Non-IT people and would provide helpful, detailed documentation to follow, as do I... and also asking the correct questions normally a great indication of the level that we are working with, as I said in my PM, I would normally do this work for someone (takes 5mins) being based in Zurich could be a bit far though...

I will be sure to fill in my profile correctly, have only recently moved here and am even more recently making use of this great and informative site :-)

Found two providers in Lucern that could provide the service you ask:

They both ask for the same price: CHF 69.- per hour.

I think it's not really worth it but then again, I work in IT and would do the stuff myself. Have no experience with Windows 7 (I have a Mac!). But isn't it so that usually you can just put in the CD and it pretty much guides you through the installation? At least the initial part?

The only hitch is that you need a legal copy of the OS (operating system) and that usually is the more expensive part of it. And especially if you have data on your computer, you'd want an expert to save it.

Just to clarify... This does not need to be reinstalled if not legit.

There are two options, one is the follow online by either callinto obtain a new code legitimately, and the other (if funds are tight) is to work around this issue. None of them require the OS to be reinstalled.
