I wouldn't say so...A little bit of smoking is good, you think? I'd say a little bit of food is essential. Coffee/smoking is just a bad, unecessary habit, while food one has to eat no matter what. The attitude won't ever be the same. Plus, other addictions get often treated as illnesses, while folks hooked on food get treated as gluttonous and weak. Not ill. Zero sympathy.
Regarding excessive food consumption, I think we've agreed that it's not a matter of education because all the facts really are out there so it is a mental illness or a physical addiction.

However, try telling a smoker that it's easy to give up.

Re: Fast fatty foods

Hmmmm....in times like these hedonism could be a good thing. One can get solace in running a marathon, or, in a couple of extra strudels. In the long run, either will really make much difference. These all very personal choices, to make general statements about them or assess, gets boring (I am not saying you are, just that for somebody, starting a healthy routine can be superb, for somebody else, starting tomorrow can be). I have faith in people finding their way, eventually, on their own terms and in their own pace...

Life is short. And we are the lucky ones. Makes one feel guilty.

Adding on to what carlos said earlier about gene expression somewhwere, this suggests an explanation for the impact of genetics in an environment that is favorable to the development of obesity.., e.g., sedentary life style, food, etc. The author is a Canadian doctor working with obese patients.

Re: Fast fatty foods

True that.... but even the most difficult genetic make-up can be worked with.
Efficient weight loss relies on boosting the metabolism with sports (again.... only if a doctor thinks you are able to)
