Fast fatty foods

Unhealthy foods are sooo disgusting.....no colour, no texture, just a big lump of floppy gloop.
And here's my proof :
(Those with a sensitive nature look away now)

LOL LOL LOL With that warning in there, I thought for sure we'd be seeing something like the food tube on "Supersize vs superskinny" or that "Embarassing Bodies" or whatever. That's just pictures of food... food no one in their right mind would combine to eat together sure enough BUT still, it is just food.

Also, some of those photos are pictures of food from fairs and such, not "every day" food.

I'm sure "everyone" has some celebration / fair indulgences they enjoy on rare occasions (such as once a year, like a state fair coming to town).

I'm sure those don't seriously fall into "this is why you're fat" as the article claims... if anything is a "sometimes" food, surely those 7lb breakfast burritos and chocolate dipped deep fried twinkies count among them.

Re: Fast fatty foods

Yes - hopefully it is that way.
(I think those who set this up had to defend the title, too.)

I actually was thinking the other day about how unhealthy food looks unhealthy - as though it's warning us...whereas healthy fruit and veg with their tastes, colours and textures, are rather enticing...
Anyway, I'm sure no one eats those things every day - although the question remains : Are our excesses getting even more excessive??

Yum
However, the only thing that looks a little unappetizing is the "Meat Boat"

Oh you'd be surprised.. there are many that would plough their way through that monstrosity..... yuck !

Overeating unhealthy foods is not part of the continental European culture, hopefully it will stay that way.

On the other hand an unforunate soul can suffer from obesity and.... not eat excessively.
I survive on an almost totally vegetarian (raw) diet to stay normal. It's terrible for some of us that just one tiny tasty deviation will add 1 kg to the scale.

Yes, they are examples of the extreme - although I do think that the preference for cheap, processed food and loads of it is slowly creeping into CH now too (when the SVP weren't looking, obviously )
Close the borders - quick!!

Re: Fast fatty foods

I think I'm becoming a bit "Swissified" when it comes to sweets. Things I make normally are still mostly okay to me but some of the pictures of things I've seen my friends enjoying recently (like Turtle Cheesecake) really look way over the top to me these days.

Although I love my cheesecake, these days it is much more likely to incorporate fruit rather than extra bits of chocolate and caramel.

Oh la la la la..... I'd love to make an exception sometimes !! That looks soooo sinfully delicious

You're right Leni, but some of the processed goodies did get here
Will make an exception for a delightful British meat pie for instance (only saw them in Zurich though)

But thank goodness the really trashy stuff has remained abroad. Once saw a BLT sandwich with cheese (bacon lettuce tomato) deep-fried and served in a hospital cafeteria !!

Re: Fast fatty foods

I was in Starbucks for the first time yesterday (feel free to laugh!) with my teenage daughter who loves it of course.
I am obviously very old-fashioned (preferring a traditional Swiss Cafe/Confiserie) and I was shocked at some of the overdone gunk on sale there - even the "drinks" consist of syrup and cream!
It almost makes a slice of Schwarzwälder look virtuous......

... and have you seen the size of their cookies and muffins ?
Yikes.... one has enough calories for a full meal.

But the company there was fun (eh Peg when are you coming back ? )

Gosh, you have no idea how badly I want to... need to get *someone* to let go of the wallet a bit more though.

So many complaints, trying so hard to stop that.

Re: Fast fatty foods

Yesterday, I was having a coffee in the local café.
They have a terrible menu - huge portions and everything fried.

There was a group of ladies on the next table - I have seen them there a lot.
This time I had the pleasure of observing their choice of lunchtime delicacies.
Good grief.
Mountains of chicken 'salad' in mayonnaise, accompanied by another mountain of french fries. Plus Coke (maybe it was diet).
Ok - I know we live in an overly PC age, but 2 of these women were no older than 50 and the size of certain aquatic mammals one sometimes finds washed up on a beach. Add to this that they had those walking aids with wheels and were shuffling along like 80 year olds.....
I tried to think that maybe they were really unable to walk and so had put on weight, but shouldn't they be trying to do something about it?? No bodyframe could support all that.

Sorry, but I think we live in an age when it is ok to be fat because it is not our fault. Diddums.
Well, after seeing that, I think it is. We are what we eat.

Re: Fast fatty foods

The thing that gets me most annoyed are the crappy children's menus. It's not just Switzerland but everywhere (France, Spain, Germany, Austria, UK). The adults have a reasonable selection but the kids is always just confined to a deep fried medley of chicken nuggets, fish fingers, chips (as in French fries) or sausage with lashings of tomato ketchup.

They even offer that crap at our local swimming pool cafe which is ironic seeing as it's promoting a healthy lifestyle.

We normally buy a big adult's portion in a restaurant and ask for a second plate for my son to share from it.

Having said that, I'm partial to a secret snack from Burger King once in a while.

Yes - that as well!!

How can we expect people to make healthy choices if there isn't a choice??
Especially when it comes to kids and there future lifestyle.

In one thread you seem to be taking a pop at those who provide the fatty foods and the “less than adequate” menus, but at the same time having a go at people not taking responsibility for their eating habits. A little bit of “having your cake(s) and eating it” maybe?

Haha, my dad used to tell me I could have ANYTHING on the menu EXCEPT the kids' stuff. He gets really angry that parents feed their kids lower quality food than themselves. But then he even feeds his cat better than some parents feed their kids...

Re: Fast fatty foods

I saw a couple eating, literally, a pot full of melted cheese and bread the other day.

I felt so indignant I needed two Belgian beers and a tin of fois gras to calm down.

Sounds to me like you should maybe go out with some blinders on or something... Why does it matter to you how they looked or what they ate?

Good on you for only having coffee. Me, I have to be careful about having coffee as I get headaches if I've had it for a day or two but not on the third.

Oh, and, that beached whale bit? Ugly, ugly, ugly. No call for that any more than for using nasty names to call people of different races, different religions, different sexual orientation or anything else that may make them different from you.

Have you just gone through a diet or something?

Usually that is when one gets massively aware of what is going on around us.
I think food, any food, is just waaaay too available, all the time and we stuff our faces without even thinking if we ever really need all this.
