Motorcycle maintenance

Now that I've finished the valves/belts on my Ducatis, I will be doing a ground up build of a BMW R90S (the one with the fractured crankshaft).

So, if anyone wants to watch, help, etc., let me know.

This is in (or rather near) Lugano.

Tom

Look forward to watching the live stream, once your web cam is in place.

When you've run out of projects, let me know, if you want another one.

I would love to , and then I would bring the 998s down and get you to show me how to change the belts
Just a shame (for me) you are in Lugano ...

Hmmm, I'll have to look into that. I have no electricity in the garage (unless I start up the generator), but I do have WiFi now (I set up an AP with a Yagi at home 200m away that gives me a pretty good signal), and a spare laptop, so I could always move the car over to the garages and use that as a power source!

Easy to do, and I have all the special tools (I use an FFT program on my Palm T3 to measure the belt frequency, and another program for engine diagnostics).

Lugano is nice, and certainly a fun place to ride to once the passes open up!

Non-European I'm afraid - 1985 XJ 700N Maxim - Californian import.

London taxi driver took a dislike to it and me, over 10yrs ago, and his insurance "kindly" wrote it off and paid me out, less a small buy-back - I'd've preferred it repaired, as the damage wasn't too bad - holed exhaust (I have a replacement - probably difficult to find now), and handlebars (also have replacement), plus the normal busted-up sticky-out bits.

I always had the intention of repairing it myself - it's a pretty thing with a nice tight box - but never found the time. Now it's a case of the usual things for a standing bike (covered in a shed) - sticky carbs, rust in tank, globby oil, etc. Hasn't been turned over for about 7yrs (gulp).

And it's no longer cost effective to pay a garage to do it, but I haven't got the heart to part with her - she was a grrrreat ride, and well suited the varying roads of California.

Japanese manufacturers only produced 700cc bikes for 2yrs to combat US import restrictions, so there probably aren't too many of these around now.
