Well, that's a given. I'm not going to NOT pick it up now, am, I?
Alternatively, have it delivered to your doorstep? Or have the OH picking it up?

Picking up the new car in 45 min and driving it back to Fribourg from Bern. Why do I have this irrational fear that some idiot will rear-end me at some stage of the journey? I've driven it countless times without a single incident, yet now.....

Our last car I bought in Zürich and drove home to Fribourg (with a bootful of mice, but that's another story) and I never had these fears then.

Re: Irrational fear

There are three types of car insurance in Switzerland:

Third party insurance
This must be taken out for every motor vehicle used on the road. It only covers loss and damage suffered by third parties (exception: when the owner is also a passenger in their car).

Insurance premiums are fixed by insurance companies who generally grant policy holders a no claims bonus.

Fully comprehensive or collision insurance
This covers damage to the vehicle and is not compulsory. There is restricted cover and fully comprehensive cover.

Passenger insurance
This insurance is optional. It covers bodily injury to the insured person as a result of an accident that occurred when using the insured vehicle. The advantage of passenger insurance is that the insurer provides benefits irrespective of who is at fault in the event of a collision.

Green Card System
Switzerland is a signatory of the Green Card System. The Green Card is not a required document as it is substituted by the national vehicle licence plates of Switzerland. The Green Card certifies that the motorist has at least the minimum third party insurance cover.

Car Accidents
Involved in or witness to an accident:

Police Tel: 117
Ambulance Tel: 144
All drivers involved must write a report on the incident and sign it for insurance purposes. The insurer should provide an accident report form (constat d'accident). This report should be filed with the insurance company within three working days. The report must include the licence plate numbers and contact details of all people involved.

Information on accident prevention in Switzerland from the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention

Good. You'll be safe then!

I'm sure you're taking your fear to mean drama when in fact you're simply over excited with pleasure.
Both can make you sick with fear at times.
Allez! You'll enjoy it all!

He's not gonna die! don't be so negative. It's only the rear bumped and some side scratches. Oh and a few marks on that lovely new painted car he has!
