Have you walked Hadrian's wall?

I really fancy a solitary holiday this year and I'm pulled towards walking Hadrian's Wall. As i've been out of Britain for over 30 years, I'd like to immerse my self in the scenery and fantastic sky's of the countryside.

I'm not the fittest of people but I'd have time to improve before August, I'm just a bit worried that some parts may be very steep. I'd pace myself and have a day or two off in between but I'd love to hear from anyone that's done it and wouldn't mind sharing their experiences.

Re: Have you walked Hadrian's wall?

The other option is the coast to coast walk. From what I know not too bad and you don't have to do all of it on one go.

There's also The Pennine Way way or my neck of the woods The Cleveland Way

I can't comment on gradient though - sounds like a nice idea

A fantastic route with breath taking scenery, do not be too worried about the gradient as it is not too bad with plenty of resting and old Roman ruins you can enjoy on the way where you can rest. Not to mention all the Pubs and hotels near to the route!

Re: Have you walked Hadrian's wall?

dear Oldhand, the former Mr. Bartholemew and I looked into walking the Ridgeway once. We found some excellent resources on the National Trail website, we were able to get pretty much everything we needed in terms map detail, bus timetables, where to stay, etc. from there.

Please keep us posted as to whether you end up doing it. I've thought of walking one or the other trail myself as a "solitary holiday" too.

PM me if you're up for some hikes before to practice--there's a Zurich hiking group I set up on Facebook I can link you up with.
