When ordering sheeps eyes in broth at a restaurant, ask for only the left eyes. Albanian sheep tend to blink with the right eye a lot making them a little tough.

Eye, eye, sir. (Such useless info for the OP but a little Wed humour never hurts)

I heard this is all because of angles, apparently the average Albanian male peasant hangs to the left.

We ate very well in Tirana's Italian restaurants. Unfortunately never got to venture outside of the main city, but then it was a difficult time for travelling.

Have a wonderful trip, and please share your experiences when you return!

Interesting list. Nice to see Syria there as "officially off the naughty step".

Off the naughty step but standing in the civil war corner.

Re: Albania - Tell me about it

I have been there many times in the last three years...very interesting people and very interesting culture. Coming from Switzerland...it will certainly be a shock...Very good food especially if you love meat...Make sure you have someone you trust with you and stay away from certain places once it gets dark. If you are driving...if you get outside of a roundabout without scratching your car...its a miracle Very beautiful country with many places to see but just like my home country...just wasted because of comunism...It is worth visiting!
