Asahi Pentax Lense on Nikon D90??

My mom told me that she got an old Asahi Pentax 52mm lens that was buried somewhere in her room for a very long time since my dad sold the camera body, and she asked me if I want it.

I love photography but I'm amateur and honestly I still yet have to learn a lot about this hobby of mine. I have Nikon D90 with 18-105 mm now. I'm just wondering if I could use this old lens with my new D90?

I think I will need an adapter to attached it to my camera, but will it be worth it? I heard it could decrease the quality of the picture taken, is this true?

Thanks a million

Re: Asahi Pentax Lense on Nikon D90??

You could theoretically use it, if you can still get the right adapter, and it's likely it'll need to be an adapter with an optical element to give you the full focal range, which will reduce the image quality. It also won't meter with the D90. So basically forget it.

Your best bet if want a nice fast cheap prime is a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF-D. Should only cost a couple of hundred franks - less if you can find one on ebay or ricardo. Not only will it meter on the D90, you'll get autofocus as well.

Re: Asahi Pentax Lense on Nikon D90??

ouch it's a shame then...

Thank you very much for the info though, at least now I'm not gonna waste my time and money to get an adapter and being disappointed in the end.

I think it's better to buy the asahi pentax camera body then if I really want to use the lens... maybe when I have more money to spend then

Thank you!
