I recently went to The Ritz for afternoon tea and was very disappointed.
They have 6 sittings a day and our "afternoon tea" was before lunch.
My companion paid with a tip nearly 90 and the sandwiches & cakes were titchy.
My mathmatical brain worked out that over a month they are raking in 250k a month - not worth it.
I have taken to having Afternoon tea in Le Meridian in Piccadilly - most enjoyable.
Bluebird cafe in Kings Road is fun too.
For cream tea, I like the tea-room at Liberty's - so very Ye Olde English- and superb shop.

LOL- so we might know each other. We were there as often as we could afford (which was about once a month...).
You never know ... and me too!!

Also agree about the Ritz - we took a visiting friend there for tea and were disappointed with the conveyer belt approach and lack-lustre food (not to mention the cost).
The Bluebird is great, and also good for star spotting, for a giggle. And I have just remembered Mon Plaisir in Covent Garden - really lovely little French restaurant.

Turn left out of Liberty's then left again (5 minutes max) and you find The Clachan pub. Very decent.
