| | London restaurants, bars & pubs - suggestions?
I'd like to eat some of the following
- steak
- Indian (not Brick Lane tourist Indian) - are any of the Drummond street ones decent?
- English breakfast
- Afternoon tea
- Sunday dinner (pub suggestion?)
- maybe some Japanese food?
Other suggestions welcome. I'll try almost anything but mexican food.
Don't want really expensive or posh, needs to be quite central, not bothered about decor, just want good food. Please say if we need to reserve or not (will be on a weekend). Suggestions for bars would be helpful too. I remember going to some beautiful bars last time I went, but can't remember the names!
Also, is the Oxo tower bar any good? Have heard the views can be gorgeous provided you're on the right side of the bar.

There is already a thread on this forum from someone who took his girlfriend up the Oxo Tower. she seemed to enjoy it.
As far as the rest, loads of other threads here already giving great suggestions for eating in London.

Yeh, I've checked the other threads. Was after suggestions for these particular foods though and also current suggestions - in my experience things change pretty quickly in London, restaurants etc included!

Sophie's Steak House on the Fulham Road has great food and atmosphere. There are also loads of good gastro pubs that offer excellent Sunday roasts - these are too numerous to mention, especially not knowing which part of London you will be staying in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm so hungry! Also, funny you mention UCL students, I enjoyed several nights out with people from there. Great company.

However, back on track ... there is a very good Japanese restaurant that does excellent sushi in EC4 - City Miyama. Also Zuma in SW7 but it is pretty pricey.

I've mixed this up but I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed by any of these:
- steak The Ivy or Barbecoa
- Indian (not Brick Lane tourist Indian) - are any of the Drummond street ones decent? Lahore Kebab Shop http://www.lahorekebabhouse.com/
- English breakfast Workers Café http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1150/24169.php
- Afternoon tea - The RITZ or The Dorchester
- Sunday dinner (pub suggestion?) The Castle (also has fantastic beer) http://www.castlehollandpark.co.uk/
- maybe some Japanese food? Nobu |

Wonder if it's still there.

For afternoon tea - my favourite places are Claridges or Browns. Less stuffy than Ritz.

Japanese: for the freshest sushi www.chisou.co.uk/, also very yummi is Kiku www.kikurestaurant.co.uk
Indian: for dinner I like a lot www.cinnamonclub.com, pretty good and affordable is www.bombaynightsrestaurants.co.uk
Steak: I don't eat meat, but the hubby drags me often to his favourite Persian grill near where we live www.lavash.co.uk
Breakfast, afternoon tea I don't know sorry.
I think I have posted this already several times, but I highly recommend to get a tastecard, at a lot of restaurants you will get 50% off the bill.
Happy trip to London |

- steak - I like Maze Grill, http://www.gordonramsay.com/mazegrill/ I don't like Goucho Grill.
- Indian (not Brick Lane tourist Indian) - are any of the Drummond street ones decent? As above, Raavi Kebab near Warren Street tube is excellent. On the same street there's a load of Indian Sweets shops which are really excellent.
- English breakfast - Dean Street Townhouse, Soho.
- Afternoon tea - Browns Hotel
- Sunday dinner (pub suggestion?) - Vinoteca, Marylebone.
- maybe some Japanese food? Atari-Ya. Three locations in North West, West and Central London.

I recently went to The Ritz for afternoon tea and was very disappointed.
They have 6 sittings a day and our "afternoon tea" was before lunch.
My companion paid with a tip nearly £90 and the sandwiches & cakes were titchy.
My mathmatical brain worked out that over a month they are raking in 250k a month - not worth it.
I have taken to having Afternoon tea in Le Meridian in Piccadilly - most enjoyable.
Bluebird cafe in Kings Road is fun too.
