Getting a driving licence in Australia

Hi,

I am moving to Australia for my job. As far as I know, some tests are exempt if I hold a Swiss driving licence. Does it mean I can get my Aussi licence without any test?

thanks,
h

Re: Getting a driving licence in Australia

I am not sure about the exact proceedure or requirements but driving licences in Australia are issued by the states to cover the whole of Australia. There is little agreement between the states on road rules, every state has their own set and they can vary a bit. My advice is to look which stae you are moving to and look at the rules (Department of Road Transport or similar) that apply there. www.whitepages.com.au is a good place to start to try and find the correct department and their website.

Google gives

And then read the section for the State you will live in.

(NSW does accept Swiss drivers without a test, I didn't bother to read the rest)

Re: Getting a driving licence in Australia

Thanks for your reply. I will move to Melbourne. It seems tests are exempt for driving licence holders from Switzerland.

Information can be found below.
