Driving to UK, need to show Swiss permit? [Dual passport holder]

Hi, I hope this is the right place fot this thread.

I am driving to the UK this weekend, and I hold two passports. (not Swiss)
One nationality needs a Visa to enter the UK as a visitor, and my other nationality doesn't. I am planning to travel with both passports of course, but here is the tricky doubt:
Because I dont have a EU nationality, I wonder if the border control officers at the Euro tunnel will also ask for my Swiss permit?, because in MY swiss document, it says I am national of the country that needs the Visa .

Or the Uk officers doesn't really care where you live as long as you have a proper passport to travel? I mean my swiss permit and data in my passports are identical, except for that small detail.
Any help or experience will be appreciate, and of course this will have to come from a person that had visited the UK and have a non EU passport same as me.

Thank you

MG.

What are the x2 passports.

Don't forget the UK is not Schengen.

In my experience they can be a pain in the arse at the tunnel even with a UK passport.

If you have a passport that allows you into the UK what is the problem? Show them that one.

I've never had any problem at the tunnel, and sometimes they didn't even check passports at all.

Re: Driving to UK, need to show Swiss permit? [Dual passport holder]

No direct experience but I have held two passports in the past, and I think it doesn't matter to the UK immigration authorities as long as you have at least one passport that allows you to enter the UK with out a visa. My young son currently has a US and UK passport. When he travels to the US he needs his US passport to enter the US as a citizen (US requirement) and his UK passport to re-enter the UK as a citizen/resident. We've never had problems with him entering the US on a US passport while holding a UK passport with no visa for the US....if that makes sense. But everywhere is different. I think all the UK immigration will need to see is a passport that allows you into the UK and a passport/permit that allows you to return to your country of residence/return ticket destination.

You always just call the immigration office at your proposed port of entry and ask if you need a visa in your situation. It's not that difficult. I had to do it recently when my son lost his passport abroad and the consulate and airline where telling us 2 different things.

Re: Driving to UK, need to show Swiss permit? [Dual passport holder]

Are you driving a Swiss registered car on Swiss plates?

A bored or over officious customs officer may question why you're driving a car from one country and showing a passport from another - not a problem in itself, but one thing may lead to another when it comes to checking all relevant documentation.

In my experience, it's pot luck at most European border controls as to the level of checks - if any.
The more simple and straight forward you can keep things the better. Going from one document to another to back up the previous one, may cause suspicion, and if nothing else, cause hassle and cost time - which could result in a missed train.

If you have time, it may be worth considering getting a visa for the UK, in the passport that best relates to your situation in CH - or just take a gamble.

EDIT: just re-read OP - too late for visa.

Re: Driving to UK, need to show Swiss permit? [Dual passport holder]

Thank you all for the reply's. I did my homework before posting here in the UK embassy and in the Border control office website, and I am 99% sure I will not have a problem because one of my passports are good to go.
However in the embassy they weren't sure if I will need to show my Swiss permit as proof of residency in CH.
I think that there is no really a reason to not been cool with this, after all I am driving (swiss plates) and I have enough reasons to go back to CH (company, wife, house, etc, age).
Is the Ferry better than the tunnel for inmigration purposes? because I am driving relax I can spare few hours and also will be arriving at night.

Thank you all for the help, after all will not be good to drive 10 hours and have to go back

I used to use Dunkirk - Dover (Norfolkline) a lot, cheaper than the tunnel and you get a 2hr kip if going overnight. Makes sense after a 10hr drive.

Slightly more relaxed at Dunkirk than the tunnel.

Google maps send me to Basel / Luxembourg / Brussel / Calais. Is this a recomended route by you guys?? I am traveling with a small trailer so a easy going road is ideal. Or will be better take another major highway only within France?
Thank you in advance

I don't get the need for all the subterfuge and avoiding passport control. If you have a passport that allows entry to the UK, use that. Why would they want to see your Swiss permit?

The UK allows dual nationality, so HM Customs are hardly going to quible about this.

And if you are concerned about that, take your permit with you. It really isn't that complicated, unless you are not sharing the whole story. I'm certainly not going to advise on a route that will allow you to reduce your risk of being inspected.

As for how to get to Calais, there's plenty of threads. Try the search function.

They have just started work(yesterday) on the Vilvoorde part of the Brussels ring so I would avoid Brussels if possible. This part of the ring is congested at the best of times so it will be a nightmare with roadworks added to the mix.

Can you please show me in which part of my original thread I ask for help to AVOID a passport control point?
Not telling the whole story?
My doubts about this trip were pretty clear and I just want to avoid an inconvenience after driving 10 hours. Of course I have my swiss permit and OF COURSE I will bring it with me, ohhh but wait, this is not really what I am asking in this thread or is it?
I am not sure about YOUR legal status here or anywhere else, but be careful before implying ilegal activities from another forum members, little more respect OK Carlos??
I see you just surf around and reply nothing helpful only to beef up your post count.

The route you've described is the one I'd take - fill up with petrol/diesel in Luxembourg. Cheapest place in Europe by quite a bit. It also saves on the tolls.
